The "what would you give up to save weight" thread.
Actually I keep hearing how I'm wrong without any supporting evidence to back that up. I have no problem being wrong but you're going to have to do more than just say it.
And once again....
I don't have power seats. He does.
I don't have leather. He does.
All other options except his traction control are the same (cruise, defogger, etc).
We have made conservative educated guesses regarding the other variables.
This should give a reasonable estimate of the weights involved. Your problem seems to be that this doesn't jibe with your own idea of what this stuff weighs. That's fine. I have no problem being wrong but show me your data first.
You can't even get anyone to agree on the weight of the T-top option. I've seen guesses between 20 pounds and 75 pounds in this thread. That 55 pound difference is more than what we're talking about.
Hmm. I bet you'll be looking back in, or you wouldn't have bothered with the long reply.
Therefore, why worry about it now? It is going to weight what it weighs, and that will either be acceptable or not to each potential buyer. If it is too heavy for you, then go buy a C6 or Solstice, because there's not going to be another Pony Car offering that is lighter.
I have confidence Camaro will be lighter than Mustang or Challenger. I have a hard time believing anyone on this site can legitimately ask for more?
I continue to wonder why so many think weight reduction is some sort of free ride. Every lb off the car adds money to the car. Ultimately there are no significant areas in which to save w/o fundamentally altering the nature of the car, or drastically increasing the price.

Well....ummm....yeah.
That is, if I'm not too old by the time the damned thing comes out.
Oh and regarding weight, the ship has sailed on that, except maybe for a certain model...that is.... my car - the Z/28.
When final decisions are made for this particular car, let it be known that I'm happy to give up power seats, seat warmers, (WTF, I'm not gonna drive it in the winter), any roof option, nav, ground effects, strange spoilers, auto trans, you know, all that sort of BS.
Furthermore, I would be willing to $$$PAY EXTRA$$$ for specific, lighter components on a Z/28. Just tell me what the upcharge is for the Z's additional aluminum/titanium/high strength steel/lightweight wheels/whatever else there is, and my checkbook is out.
You can add all that BS stuff to my wife's SS convertible I guess, unless of course it weighs too much, in which case, I'll just buy her a 2 ton SUV.

As far as a Z28, most of the stuff you mentioned should be optional, so you could avoid it. But maybe not the power seats? I hope they don't make a ground effects or spoiler like the old RS package standard...I would not have bought a Camaro with that package.

Some sort of Cute Ute, eh? Real SUVs are 3 tons!

As far as seats: The best seats BY FAR, I've ever owned, were the manually adjusted Recaros on my old Corrado. And yesss Chris, I used to race it.
Those seats made my 27 way full power seats in my IROC-Z feel like $3 folding lawn chairs.
I wouldn't buy a new car that didn't have a power drivers seat, at least 6-way, and preferably 8. I don't have any need for power lumbar or recline or anything like that, but I want the infinite, easy adjustability for forward/back, height, and tilt. Speaking of lumbar, I'd like an adjustable lumbar support.
I agree with several other suggestions here: I'll give up metal in favor of fiberglass body panels, and stamped steel suspension components in favor of tubular.

4th Gen were(are) very bland looking oval blobs without the added lower agressiveness of the GFX package.
That said, it doesn't have to be standard. I'm more than willing to pay for a GFX package.
I agree 100%. My last 2 cars had power seats, and they were so much easier to find a comfortable seating position over my current non-power seat car.
