Yeah, both cars are going to be heavy *** pigs, but the Challenger is going to make the Camaro look good when it comes to this. The Challenger could be a godsend for the Chevy as far as weight goes. If the new Camaro comes in at 3700lbs(ugh), and a Challenger rolls in at 4160, all the sudden the Camaro doesn't look so bad anymore, especially in the inevitable magazine comparison articles.

 

No. There was no stock fully loaded 4th gen convertible that ever went anywhere near 4000lbs. Even with aftermarket 20" wheels (yes, I have seen 4th gens with 20" wheels), the car would still not approach that weight. Just a few years ago, 4000lbs was alot, although unfortunately this seems to be changing.

I remember being dumbstruck when I found out a 3000gt vr-4 spyder was going to weigh a hair over 4000lbs.

 

Because Chrysler decided it had to make the heads somewhat Hemi inspired, and throw away their fuel efficiency. Look at the bottom end of the Hemi though. It is quite the iron block LS1 derivitive.

I don't think the average 4000+ lb SRT8 version of any LX car (Magnum, Charger, 300C) is going to be as quick as the average 3200 lb C6. Even if the 6.1L is underrated and really makes more like 450 hp (instead of the rated 425).

I don't think I've seen any magazine test where the SRT8s have done better than 13.0. I also don't think I've seen any tests where the C6 (manual or auto) has done worse than 12.9 (usually 12.5-12.8, iirc).

 

I like the Challenger, it has a cool factor. The car was made for 4 years, they had no choice but to make it retro, on top of that they did it nice. Now the Charger.......forget about it LOL. They got this new car right and the heavier it is the better it is for us.

 

Those who think the 09 Camaro will weight in at 3400 or 3500lbs are dreaming.

What makes you think the camaro can't weigh that. the fourth gen weighed around 3400. why can't this one.

Actually the fastest recorded time for the LS6 Vette was 11.7 and the fastest for the LS1 Vette was 12.6

Actually I don't like the charger and I am not loyal to any car brands, and I don't got this whole car rivalry thing going on. I honestly just wouldn't buy a car that weighed more than 4, 000 pounds. If the 5th gen camaro weighed more than 4, 000 pounds I won't buy it.

 

He is probably going to fire back with the one time a freak SRT-8 ran a 12.56, in awesome weather conditions, at an excellent track.

There isn't any way that a SRT-8 will compete with a Vette in any performance arena, save for a freak car in a great setting. Wonder what the Vette would have run in those conditions?
