And yet....

A 4100lb 425hp Charger-SRT is just as fast as a 3250lb 400hp C6.

Maybe DC and their customers don't care about weight since their horses are bigger.

I should be one sweet handling machine, with its massive weight and all.

They can throw all the power at it they want, it is still way too damn heavy.

It'd be nice if they cared about both.

The Challenger, if made, wouldn't weigh that much. That is just what that car weighed, for shipping. Notice how the engine bay was completely gutted? If you loaded it up with real stuff it would be weighing around 4300.
The real one would more likely be 3700ish.

Hmm, don't think so:

per Edmunds: 2005 C6 0-60 4.8 1/4 Mile 12.8

Charger SRT-8 0-60 5.4 1/4 Mile 13.5

The Corvette was also an automatic. And don't even bother with telling me about the ringer 12.77 run by the 300C, a local user of that track has already debunked it, admitting that the track runs a consistent half second faster due to grip and a downhill cant to the track.

The Challenger looks like a great car, can't wait to have a Challenger and a Camaro. But give the 'Vette it's due, it will eat a SRT-8 for lunch.

i like both cars and i havent made up my mind on which one to get, but this childish behavior is getting old around here.
This is the CAMAROZ28 message board... expect them to praise DCX for building a lovely automobile?

If the concept weighed 4160 , I would actually think the production car would be heavier . Unlike the Camaro , wasnt the Challenger the first car on the updated LX production chassis ? How much does a 300c SRT8 or a Charger SRT8 weigh , the Challenger is not smaller than either of them , why would it weigh less ????

I think not! 875 lbs will take about .5 off your 1/4 mile.

405 LS6 vette will go mid 12's
345 Ls1 vette will go bottom 13's

what you smok'in

I agree, but I'm confident it will be no more than 3800lbs and a good chance under 3700.

There are two main reasons (in my view):

1.) The body style
The Challenger looks EXACTLY like it did in 1970. It is completely Retro. No some people hate this, some people like this, and some don't care.

2.) The weight.
Like the Charger the Challenger is going to be a porker, and the picture of the VIN also shows that the Challenger might actually weigh 4160 pounds. You probably understand that the more wieght a car has the more inertia it has. This decreases in performance, and therefore the car requires more power, which requires stronger parts, more power requires more fuel (in traditional gasoline engines. Therefore I can find an obious reason why many people would not like the car, since it may probably surpass four thousand pounds.

Thirdly I would like you to ponder what people's reaction to the 5th Gen Camaro would be if it looked EXACTLY like the First Gen Camaro AND weighed 4160 pounds. I believe that the reaction would be of dissapointment to some (perhaps many).
All in all I see a good reason why many people are bashing the Challenger. Personally I do not bashing it myself, but I do see a good reason why people do not like it, and I do not by all means find them child like for belieing so.
you dont find someone creating a thread on a CAMARO message board with a picture and topic that has already discussed time and time again of the main competition, childish? Instead of discussing it, this person simply writes "hehe."

You know, I dont even know why I get bothered by stuff like this. I guess I just dont like when I see people blinded by a loyalty to certain brand, just totally dismiss the competition as crap. I own both a Camaro and a Roadrunner and love them both and will have a hell of a time deciding on whether to get the Challenger or Camaro in a few years.

BigDaddyWiz - this is a GM board and the Challenger is seemingly a real heavy car. I think it's fair game.... you know... the old Ford/GM/Chrysler rivalry thing? Hey it's all in fun and I think Challenger is nicely executed apart from the weight... it's no Camaro though!

Then again.. it was a kinda pointless thread that was started... we all know the supposed weight by now.

Like a lot of people, I like the looks of the Challenger and welcome it on the streets; the more sporty cars the better. But if it IS as heavy as it seems likely to be, I believe that will be a negative factor. Some people will like it, but with gas prices the way that are, and younger buyers being more prone to smaller cars that they can mod to be very fast, I don't think it will go over as good as the Camaro probably would.

For a "big daddy" accusing someone else of being "childish", you're sure whining like a child! Just an observation .

But hey, I hear your point to degree, but like Z28Marcus just pointed out, a lot of this "bashing" is just a good 'ol "pi$$ing contest" . And don't think that people aren't concerned about the weight of the Camaro either. Read around and see, if the Camaro weighed in around ~4000 lbs, a lot of people around here would suddenly change their view of the car . As it is, I think we're all aware (and prepared) that the Camaro likely won't weigh in much less than ~3700 lbs or so . But 3700 lbs vs. 4160 lbs is a substantial difference ... enough to poke fun at!

....This is from the same guy who swore up and down we'd never see a Camaro before 2011....nothing to see here.....
