No Firebird For The Future
No Firebird For The Future
I'm sure the aftermarket will respond with something to make a Firebird clone. Look at the third-gen for instance and the companies that manufactured the Knight Rider kits.
In an interview of Edmunds, Jim R. Hopson, Communications Manager for Pontiac, said, "we're looking at developing a vehicle on the architecture that's under the Camaro, it just won't be called a Firebird."
...riiight...let's have Pontiac build a rear wheel drive V8 based of the Camaro...but not call it a Firebird. Are they serious?!
If they want to make a rear wheel drive V8, fine...call it a GTO, or come up with a new name. But once you start basing it off the Camaro...not calling it a Firebird would be a bad move IMO, because that's what people would think anyway from the previous generations of the F-Body platform. The fanbase is already there, just capitalize on it and expand it.
Meh, whatever...I guess that's why I don't get paid the big bucks and they do. Sign me up for one of those Trans Am body kits thats sure to come out in 2010...

"Developing a vehicle on the architecture that's under Camaro", doesn't have to mean a pony car. It might even be a sedan.
While I was sad to see the F-bodies go in 2002, and I too, wish they would bring the Firebird back along side the new Camaro, my guess is that if you play the numbers game (stats), there's probably a pretty weak (business) case for the Firebird
.At this point, GM is better off building and marketing ONE car 100% RIGHT, than trying to divide their efforts. That's the way I see it anyways? Depending how the market and the industry as a whole goes, maybe there will be a better case for it later on down the road
