NEWS: Chevy expects over half of all Camaro ZL1 models to be automatic
Re: NEWS: Chevy expects over half of all Camaro ZL1 models to be automatic
Good question. My guess is the same reason as they are putting it into the ZL1...buyer intent. Their research may have shown that very very few people will buy a ZR1 with an automatic transmission, yet they obviously believe that they will sell enough A6 ZL1's to justify making them available. While easy to compare the Camaro to the Corvette, I think they are overall two different demographics but became a touch closer with the 5th gen Camaro.

i think that guys that buy vettes are probably pretty similar to the guys buying camaros. theres always 2 totally different crowds. theres your older crowd(50+) who buy mostly automatics. and then there is the younger crowd (under 50)buying z06's and manual vettes. i wonder if theres not more to why they didnt offer an auto.

I can try to find out.
I might not get a straight answer...but let's see what I can come up with sometime next week.

Don't know the answer to that one, but GM tried to say that the Z06 could not handle any of the current A6 transmissions, which is 100% false! Probably since there is this perception that a M6 is better than an A6. I personally think that they would sell more ZR1's with one, especially since my own dealer (which is a huge GM dealer, they just won dealer of the year!) has had a few ZR1's sitting in their showroom for a while now, even with $15K off the sticker!

...but I didn't get the chance.
I am sure it has to do with what people have stated they would be interested in buying, and what they won't. They do a lot of clinics and market studies.

Re: NEWS: Chevy expects over half of all Camaro ZL1 models to be automatic
Its probably more along the lines that the production numbers aren't high enough to justify beefing up the A6 for duty behind the LS9. We probably wouldn't be seeing an auto in the ZL1 if the CTS-V wasn't around.
Re: NEWS: Chevy expects over half of all Camaro ZL1 models to be automatic
I was inferring to the affect on performance. If the automatic is so bad, then offering this car as a convertible must be many times worse.
