NEWS: Chevy expects over half of all Camaro ZL1 models to be automatic
Re: NEWS: Chevy expects over half of all Camaro ZL1 models to be automatic
[QUOTE=JasonD;6786322]Really? Says who? GM? What data? Performance or reliability or...?? And that is data...not "parts". The C6R is not a production vehicle built or owned by GM. I think Pratt and Miller built that (the dude that did my blower and cam install now works for them, on that car), and it is a tube-frame race vehicle with at most, GM sponsorship and advertising on it.
that info was from the owner of the race team mr, mitchum during his little seminar about the race car. i know the c6r is a race car but gm sponsors them and they take information from the c6r and put it into the street cars. everyone knows that. and mr mitchum didnt say what info they gave to gm. im guessing alot opf it is hush hush for now.

Re: NEWS: Chevy expects over half of all Camaro ZL1 models to be automatic
assuming the wreck wasnt caused by a malfunction in the car.
Re: NEWS: Chevy expects over half of all Camaro ZL1 models to be automatic
Lol, you're joking about this, but... that's something that should really worry people. Lol, and OnStar is evil.
I don't know though... some companies are pretty good about this, and on certain models you have to be more lenient. Obviously I'm very involved with Porsche and Porsches, and I have a friend who bought a GT3RS brand new from Brumos and he told them he was buying it as a track car. With about 12k miles on it, it developed an oil leak, and he was very honest that a lot of those miles were on track, he didn't think he'd over-revved it or anything, but anything's possible. They simply said "it's under warranty, this is our highest performing motor, and you're using it as intended. It should not leak." And rather than just fixing the leak they completely rebuilt his motor for free. I'd hope something similar would happen if a ZR-1 or ZL-1 suddenly started leaking oil. And it may very well be a case where you need to know a dealership that's more likely to be sympathetic to performance driving than others.

Information, sure...there are cars running around Detroit right now collecting information that makes it to production. That doesn't mean they are specifically taking parts (not data) off the Mitchum race car and putting them on the ZL1. This goes back to terms like "race-inspired".
I am no lawyer (and I don't even play one on TV), but something like that would probably go through the court system before GM would claim fault. Think about how much crap the Ford/Firestone tire issue went through. That was a nightmare.

Re: NEWS: Chevy expects over half of all Camaro ZL1 models to be automatic
are you really trying to deny that gm does not take any information from the c6r race team and translate it into the corvette? and why would the owner of the team say that he transfers technical data to gm about the motor, when your claiming that gm has nothing to do with anything that they sponsor as far as the racing? because gm does take this information and put it in cars. this is where they get the best testing for their motors. which brings me back to the 5.5 in the c6r. why the hell would they have this in the c6r unless it were going to be in the production vehicle, which by the way the gt class the vette races in is a production based class.
challenger drag pack sounds liek a drag based car....weve all determined a auto is better in a drag car...the zr1 isnt a drag car....or even a race car...... its a factory warranty holding garage queen.

So anyway, I'm surprised more people haven't mentioned the manual trans car now comes with launch control and the car will also have performance traction management (PTM) as well.
Seems like if the launch control works as claimed it should somewhat equalize things on the street from a stop when compared with the automatic (assuming both cars are stock).

guess im that 1% that doesnt understand a performance car not being covered when you drive it as intended...track or street..... maybe i should switch to porsche..they seem to understand.

As part of the GT regulations for 2010, the engine would be downsized to 5.5L to comply with the new engine displacement limits.
One last thing...Porsche's 2011 warranty...

This Warranty Does Not Cover:
...Abuse, accident, acts of God, competition, racing, track use, or other events...

Re: NEWS: Chevy expects over half of all Camaro ZL1 models to be automatic
i understand the fact that a warranty doesnt cover me turning a car into a race car, but i dont understand why the warranty is void if you go to a drag strip even once or a track for a open track day on a bone stock brand new car......

Ok. FR500...
"The Ford Racing Mustang FR500 is a highly tuned race variant of the Ford Mustang, featuring V8 engine. These are turn key race cars not designed for public road use. Each FR500 model is built with a unique Ford Racing number, and not a DOT VIN. Each is built when ordered through Ford Racing. Each FR500 is built by the same plant, in Flat Rock (Michigan), as the standard Mustang."
