Folding rear seat is a no-brainer. I have on in my 1968 Firebird. 1st gen F-body was the first to have it. I don't know why they ever took it out.

 

They didnt take it out... Folding rear seats was a 1st gen option. My 69 didnt have them. I was cleanin up my 69 when I was selling it and went to get the wax I put on the roof when a gust of wind behind me closed the trunk. anyway, had to take off work and figure out how to take the back seat apart as mine did not have the option. My 4th gen hand to releases at each of the corners of the top of the back seat.

 

I have used my folding rear seat more in my car then I ever actually thought I would. I think the 5th gen should come with it, and it probably will. Doesn't seem like it is something that would be that difficult to implement.

 

Correct, unlike the Vette, Camaro is for a lot of people there primary car. V6 Camaros will be competing for sales with every other coupe on the market including high end Cobalts. Camaro should be a somewhat practicle car that can be optioned to go fast. NOT a race car with added seats and a cup holder. You want a 2 seat race car then buy a Z06.

I loved the fold down seat in my Grand Prix. The fact that GTO didn't have one was one of the things keeping me from buying one.

 

I'm with Z28x...folding seat is a plus, even if it isn't in a hatchback.

3rd and 4th Gens weren't all about utility, but I love the fact that I can throw my mountain bike in the back and take off.

 

The hatchback was much more useful than a trunk.

Heck, I transported a disassembled twin bed (mattress as well) in my '02 Camaro. Um... As well as like 15 boxes of ceramic tiles (poor car probably didn't like all that weight).

I'd MUCH prefer having a hatch than a trunk. But if a trunk is what we're stuck with I'd hope they at least make the rear seat fold down (split).

 

I put a whole rack stereo (cd player, reciever, eq, dvd player, etc.), the cabinet and 2 4' tall speaker boxes w/15" woofers in my 99 once. It was ok to move stuff but not great for moving people. I agree, any extra utility will help the cars sales. The seats probably won't be very comfortable regardless, they might as well fold down.

 

i also transported a twin bed (mattress box sping and frame). the trunk in the 5th gen will be useless...even a bag of golf clubs might not fit. they cannot be used as a DD anymore.

 

I MUCH perfer the trunk. Structural rigidity, trunks dont leave gaping holes in the shell. Hatches are big and heavy, trunks are small and light easier to close not as much water and leaves caught in the gaps as in my 98. I had a ton of room in my 69's trunk. I think fold down rear seats have to be a no brainer.

I would like the strut decklid though.

In terms of user-friendliness, I'd prefer the notchback lid as well since it is lighter and smaller, even if it is not as big an opening. But I will miss the hatchback

 

So a car like the Mustang can't carry clubs or be used as a daily driver either? Come on man, even a Corvette vert can carry multiple sets of clubs.

 

go look at the size of the opening then compare that to the mustang.

You're still talking about a concept, not the final design. I'm sure they will figure out a way to make the trunk accessable. And no, the Corvette CONVERTIBLE is not a hatchback.

 

Even the Mustang's opeing was small...well, the last gen anyway. I'm not sure about how the current one compares.
