Car and Driver says Mustang wins
#91
How do I have to allow for the Viper or Vette if I bring the GT500 into the conversation. It is still Mustang based whereas the Camaro and Challenger are entirely separate aside from the SS sharing the LS3 with the base Corvette. The Viper and Corvette also lack rear seats and are more in the vein of being sports cars than muscle cars. What I am doing IS comparing apples to apples. If there were a Z28 and it trumped the GT500 but I said you have to allow the now departed Ford GT you would cry foul. I understand being a fan of the car, but ignoring the facts is a completely different level.

Edit: I noticed you're from Canda, so I went and looked up the CDN prices on these cars as well(I can't sleep). I was having problems getting the base price of the 2010 GT500 from Ford's Canadian website, so you'll have to make do with the 2009 pricing information on the Stang.
GM Canda's website lists the Z06 at $94k MSRP. The 09 GT500 is shown going for $54k MSRP. The price disparity in Canada is actually GREATER than it is here in the states. $40k compared to a $29k difference here.

Your right about the price! I should have checked more before opening my mouth and inserting foot! LOL, my bad. That is still alot of money for a mustang that is not much quicker than a CAMARO SS.

Fair enough, and I'm still a fan of the Camaro first and foremost, despite our little debate. I just like to give respect where respect is due, and the Mustang has forced me to do that with this new iteration. Here's to hoping GM has something up it's sleeve(if it still owns a damn shirt) to fire back at the blue oval boys.

Ha, you mean the $46k GT500 and the $75k Z06. And those are the base prices for each. And throw the modded bull**** out the window, we're talking stock vs. stock here. Hell the LS3 Vette's base price is right under $50k. Next...

the best test would to have all 3 on a test course with 3 of the best drivers they can find and have them all go at same time, whoever reaches the finish at the end i guess is the better car also include some driver experience in that as well.

you know, after reading that article again, i still cant figure out why they picked the mustang. other than the fact of being different than the other magazines. there was not too much bad said about the camaro other than the steering, trunk small, and it looked angry. i think an angry looking car makes it look better. and for the things they said about the mustang, it seems liek they spent just as much talking about things they didnt like, as the things they did. the whole article was basiclally about less power less weight. thats it. im still confused as to why it was picked and it was actually more expensive than the camaro. yeah it was close behind the numbers of the camaro, in certain fields. the only conclusion i can think of ,as to why the "mustang WON" is because of the cover page. they decided to take a different approac to selling magazines. since the other mags picked the camaro, readers would assume c&d picked it too. thats why they put it in huge writing on the front that the mustang wins. it draws the different crowd along with the same, to see why the mustang wins. its nothing more than a publicity stunt.

Some parts of this thread are kinda funny.
If Car & Driver said that red cars look better than blue cars, would everyone have to agree because they said so? Would that make all the other magazines wrong because they said blue cars look better than red ones?
Heck...f I said pizza tastes better than cheeseburgers, would everyone have to agree because I said so?
Dammit...now I am hungry.

Pizza does taste better than cheeseburgers!

The whole point of a magazine is so that you can learn what other people think.
I was thinking that, but it was about your post. bossco's post, on the other hand, seems pretty well reasoned and thoughtful to me.
Didn't you read the article? It's the "gotta have it" factor, baby!

I don't agree with how C&D gave points in certain areas, but oh well. The Mustang is a badass car. And with the new 5.0 with 400 HP, it is going to be very appealing. I think it's a good thing because GM will have to respond (as long as they are still around).
