I have a feeling I might be confused about the definition of "driver-centric" though.
Indeed, the concept Camaro did not have a cockpit-style/wraparound/driver-centric interior layout.

I'm asking what makes you think the production car's interior will look anything like the concept's. Unless I've missed it, there have not been any leaked spy shots of the production interior, nor any rumors about its contents. It's been generally accepted that the interior of the concept wasn't practical (did you see the radio?), and all discussion of it that I've seen has been based around the assumption that the interior would change drastically. The only carryover I'm anticipating is the extra gauges on the lower console.

I agree with you -- I'm a huge fan of the cockpit-style interior layout, and I hope the 5th gen has it. I'm just wondering what makes you think it won't.

Having seen what GM is doing lately with interiors (Lambda, CTS, Malibu), I have high hopes. All of those cars have semi-wraparound layouts, so that both front passengers have a bit of a cockpit feel. The radio and HVAC aren't angled towards the driver, but the IP looks like it still has a bit of curve to it -- it's a long way from the straight-dash layout in the concept. If Camaro's interior is set up like those other cars, I'll be a happy camper.

They seemed VERY excited (i.e. designers) about the way the dash, radio and such - tucked under and away from the center shifter console. That it was different. It was a certain feel that they were trying to achieve. So I think that's gonna stay.

The Main two gauges, Tach, and Speedo are still there. In all they're square glory.

I'll bet it's going to remain largely unchanged. Except for less shiny stuff, and a different radio intrumentation.

btw, I'm REALLY hoping the guage cluster down below stays, REALLY, REALLY hoping

It's just the feeling that I get from GM. They seem very proud of that, including all the interviews with Micah Jones. Plus all the talk about how close to the concept the production car will be. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing anything. I don't care what the interior looks like, I will be buying a Camaro as soon as they are available, just that I really liked the feel of the 4th gen interior and I don't get that same feel from the 5th gen concept. Not that I've sat in it.

I guess we will know for sure once GM releases some official pics of it, or have a better idea when we get some spyshots of the interior of the mules.

Im with ya on that! I would love to have those down there. I like the way I feel in control of everything going on in my 4th gen because it is sort of angled towards the driver...like when the girlfriend tries to mess with the music....just shift to 3rd and block her
Of course its not like we are going to have a bench seat in the front or anything of the 5th gen. the center console and seat design will still give it a "driver-centric"(as we seem to be calling ti) feel to it I think.

Holy crap, you need a short stick.

Even stock, my shifter didn't even come close to the height of the radio!

I think he was talking about down shifting and setting her back in the seat so she can't reach the radio.

Which could backfire and get him a speeding ticket, if she kept trying for the radio.

Sorry to say, but with that pic, I'm not impressed. Owned to many Camaros to think the hype is worth what I see here. Glad to see the platform will be back, but thats about it.

I would say the same thing if the car actually looked as bad in real life as it does in that blurry, low-res, distorted camera phone pic. Good thing that will not be the case. You might want to read the other posts in this thread or wait until a more accurate picture comes out before you make your final judgment.

Ugh...people that haven't seen the real thing need to hold their damn horses until something better is released. Scott is right, this picture is TERRIBLE and should in no way be considered even a remote representation of the finished product. Someone needs to me fired....into orbit.

Trust me, you guys won't be let down.

Jason, Scott...if I've said too much, delete this post before the Suburbans are dispatched. Gas is expensive, no need to waste it on a fleet of menacing vehicles.

Haha...yeah I've been away from the 5th Gen forum for some time now. I wasn't big on the whole speculation game and I've been otherwise busy with my job and life in general. I've been poking my head in here a bit more over the past few weeks to show support for Jason and Scott. The Camaro and F-Body fans are lucky to have these guys around. I'll just poke and prod you guys in case you lose sight of that.

I plan to be VERY involved with the new Camaro once it comes out (and with any luck maybe even sooner) so I figure it's time to find the pulse again.

Thanks for poking in Kris. I have to say, that when I first saw your render of what a 5th gen could look like, it was love at first sight.
And I for one DO appreciate Jason and Scott for what they do.
