Am I the only one Dissapointed in retro???
What the He__ do you mean by "RETRO". This car looks like a Camaro! It is not a repop of any previous Camaro, it just has elements of classic Camaro. The interior looks very futuristic to me. It just has the dual gauge pod and the console gauge cluster that are CAMARO. There are plenty of cars that don't look like an American muscle car. I love the new Eclipse and kind of like the new Nissan line. But somebody tell me what your idea of a Non-Retro Camaro would have looked like. A Honda. a Mitsu, a MR2 -WHAT!!!

Hmm... split glass roof, fog/tail lights, a couple fascia shapes... suspension raised a inch or two... that's about all I see. Still don't think it was all that much.
Re: Am I the only one Dissapointed in retro???
Honestly this reminds me of when the 98 camaro's came out. Everyone was hating them, especially Lt1 owners. But now those Lt1 owners have Ls1's and they changed their story. Now they hate gen 5 concept. Just wait til they get one of those. Story changes again. That car SCREAMS camaro

Something original....not too hard really.
Re: Am I the only one Dissapointed in retro???
Wow... the way I remembered it, the Mustang hadn't lost much. That car definitely lost the edge it had. I just hope it doesn't happen to the Camaro.
Sure it's just facia shapes and light shapes... but that's what gave the car character. Without that character I feel the production mustang looks bland.

Don't forget the main proportions. I would say that what really makes that car is the wide, low stance to it as well as short overhangs. That was killed in the production vehicle. The same can be said for the Camaro concept. If it looses that character, you will see a similar downgrade.

anything sleek and rounded is not current with this market...big beefy and boxy are..exactly what a muscle car looked like back in the day..and a front end peice..well a grill is popular now to have on cars..and a 70's split bumper grill would not work on this car..so go with the 69 it fits its big aggressive and mean..Most of those cars that the 4th gen followed in style are all gone now..for example..the 3000GT and stealth both dead , the 300ZX..another car that came back with a tip of the hat to history..Celica, changed to the new body style and sales plumited..
and to tell you the truth I would rather have the new Camaro look like the Mustang in some way..Cus its a muscle car..not like the Corvette and a sports car..
Re: Am I the only one Dissapointed in retro???
I'd like to thank Brangeta for summing up most of the way I feel in his post a couple pages back...Minus the comments about Jags and Astons. This new Camaro has definitely been designed to appeal to an "older" crowd...The 4th definitely wasn't, which is most likely why alot of the younger guys around here are so fond of them. I love all Camaros, but I grew up with 3rd and 4th gens so they are what I like the most. Also, to this day you can go out on the road and not see any cars that look remotely similar to the 4th gen cars...(or the 3rd gen cars for that matter) On the other hand this new bulky, beefy styled Camaro blends in quite nicely with the other retro cars on the market. To me it's almost as if the new Camaro has lost the attitude it once had. This new concept falls right in line with everything else that is out right now and I'd be lying if I tried to say it didn't bother me. The new concept looks nice but it's not what I see as being a Camaro. It looks too predictable, too played out and too mellow. The design team needs to take a serious look at the new Z06, an '02 TA, a '90 IROC, an LT1 4th gen, a '02 Viper GTS, an S7, and an F-22 Raptor and go back to the drawing board... I need to figure out a way to get rich so I can afford a Z06 or Corvette SS in a couple years, 'cause I know that will never happen

Re: Am I the only one Dissapointed in retro???
To me, I haven't found it's identity yet. It's not that I don't completely dislike it it, but there's nothing unique to it, revelutionary or evolutionary, that makes it special, and better to some, the way each previous generation was a step above its predecesor.
Everybody's chimed in about what previous generation they see...no on has chimed in and pointed out what's distinctly identifiable as a new car.

Re: Am I the only one Dissapointed in retro???
^^^ X 10,000....I think you just hit the nail on the head with that one...What element of this concept is really new??? Like you said I see nothing evolutionary or revolutionary about it...It just looks like a decent looking car, not the next Camaro. This has never been the case with previous F-bodies and should not become standard procedure now.
Re: Am I the only one Dissapointed in retro???
You would prefer that over the new Camaro concept?
I basically want an Aston Martin V8 Vantage with a front end kind of like the C6. Good combination in my eyes. You other guys can use the throwing up icon or say it looks like a Saturn if you want, but I like it, so deal with it.

... but what's a f-22 Raptor? A jet? Anyway, those are all cars that have dynamic, attractive styles. They are all low and sporty, and that is what the 4th gen was. To me, the Camaro stopped being a muscle car when the designers started making the car low to the ground and sporty. To me, the line separating sports car from muscle car is pretty thin. Muscle cars can't drive sporty (remember the loose steering of the previous gen of Mustang?), have unoriginal styling that makes them blend in with other cars, and they are not low to the ground (see: Mustang). Sports cars can handle and they are low to the ground (see: 3rd and 4th gen Camaros... and to some small extent 2nd gens). That's why I think the Camaro should have remained a sports car in its 5th generation, because this concept looks like a muscle car again, which isn't all that cool in my book.I have a question... if you put a 350 engine into something lame looking like oh... say... a new rear-wheel drive Volkswagen Jetta... would it be a muscle car? Seems to me the answer is yes. Well guess what, the new concept is no better. I don't care if it performs better than my 4th gens, heck, I don't even care if it performs better than a Ferrari, what it all comes down to is no matter how much faster and better performing the car is than the competition, it's still not a sports car like the 4th gens and that bothers me.
Do you remember those Motortrend/Road and Track comparison tests of performance cars and stuff? They'd have like a Ferrari 360, a Lamborghini Gallardo, a Corvette, a Viper, and a BMW M3 or M5 thrown in with the bunch. And you would see the BMW and what would you think? I would think: "Why are they putting this car in the test? It isn't a sports car. It's a car for the busy executive who takes his kids out for ice cream." Well that is what the 5th gen looks like to me. So while a 4th gen can park inbetween a Corvette and a Ferrari and not look out of place; the new Camaro is going to have to take the parking spot between a 300C and a BMW to not look out of place...
(Sorry about the quality of this post, I'm not proofreading it because I'm tired.)
Re: Am I the only one Dissapointed in retro???
Well, they said that the guy who designed the new Camaro concept took inspiration from an F-22 Raptor...I don't really see any in the car, but definitely wouldn't mind if there were some fighter jet elements included in it's design
That's why I put it on the list...I also agree, the 3rd and 4th gen cars were pretty much sports cars...That's what I'm into, that's my style, that's my idea of a Camaro...This new concept sorta' ruins all of that. My friends dad has an '01 'Vette and my car looks right in place parked next to it, this new concept would look out of place and that to me is a problem. Like you said it would be better off parked next to a 300 or something lame and boring like that.

All the other new sports cars seem to have more hp than that.
And what happened to the japanese? They must have been gulping electric coolaid. Their concept cars are absolutely insane looking (Mazda Kabura, Mitsubishi Concept-CT MIEV, Nissan Urge.) I think all the new designs look like bad cartoons!
The best newish car is the Pontiac Soltice. It's beautiful! Even if it is a 2 seater beater. I wouldn't want to be in one when an SUV hits it though...

Re: Am I the only one Dissapointed in retro???
[QUOTE=Brangeta]Well... considering I drew it... yeah. Is that supposed to be something absurd or something... That I would want my great or crappy (you can choose)design over what GM came out with?
