Got my Silver and Red one yesterday. Just opened them up, both have scratches on the roof. The Red one is worse. I'll try to buff them out hopefully. They are cool looking

Both the Red and Silver are showing out-of-stock on the Wal-Mart website right now. Funny thing is, the Red shows a $35 and the silver shows as $59.86.

As I have already done my family Christmas this past weekend I got a couple of Wal-Mart gift certificates. Going to stop by the store after work today and see if they have any more left in stock as they had at least 1 silver last time I was there. Going to see what they scan for a price in store and go from there.

Also, I couldn't get it to pull up searching toys and even did a search for "Camaro" and it didn't pull it. But the link at the beginning of this thread still works:

At 70 bucks I said naaa its cool and Im in love with the car but I could justify spending 70 bucks on the car when I knew I was going to sand it down and repaint it. and the paint itself isnt cheap! for a Pint of the copper for the vette is about 30 bucks, plus the 15 for the gun metal and ive got more into the paint than I do the car! plus I need to do the motor swap and steering servo swap..... god the little car is just as bad as a full size one!! I just cant leave well enough alone!

Took mine apart.

Took mine apart already. Not too much too it, and it doesn't look like it will be easy to swap out better parts. It really doesn't have a suspension and the frame is pretty flexy. Still, it's worth the money paid and I'm gonna run it til it burns out. Just got to find better/cheap batteries.

Here is a pic of what I did to mine. This thing really flies with the mods I did.

Details please. Looks like there's not to much left of the original system.

To the people who have modded theirs, could you give some details as to what you did, or some info on how to mod it, how hard it is, and stuff like that?

Thanks

As you can see I gutted all of the electrics from the car. I opened the gear box and packed it well with synthetic grease (right out of my ball joint gun). The motor I bought is a 540, 17 turn motor and mated with an esc that can handle up to 15 turns. Looking back now I think that I need a higher turn motor. More on that in a bit. I used a spare receiver and high torque servo I had laying around(I am big into r/c airplanes). The servo is a standard size with a servo saver mounted on it(white round thing on top). A servo saver is required to absorb impacts to the wheels to prevent striping of the gears. Finally I bought a 7.2V 3600mha NMHI battery to power it.

The motor mounts easily to the gearbox, but it is not adjustable for different pinions. For this reason I was stuck getting a 10 tooth pinion(I believe. I would have to open it back up to be sure). I did have to cut some plastic away for the new motor to fit.

The servo was also pretty easy to install. I cut away some of the plastic from the original servo and glued it in there. The control arm is a leftover from a crashed airplane.

Now about what I would do different. I was having overheating problems with it in the configuration you see in the picture. I later added a small fan that blew on the heat sinks for the esc. This seemed to solve the problem. The reason for the overheating was that the motor needed more turns. I think a 20+ turn motor would be better to keep the esc from overheating. Normally you can fix this problem by putting a smaller pinion on the motor, but like I said there is really no way of doing that without some major modification of the gearbox.

I eventually burnt the esc out. It was pretty funny actually. I was driving it slowly around the house when my two year old son decided to hold on to the back. I pulled him on his belly around the kitchen for a minute and then heard a pop! That was just too much for it lol. I am going to get another esc for it soon and will be back in business. Just don't pull the little ones around with it.

This thing really flies with theses mods. Having proportional steering is nice too.

Here are some links to the parts I needed. There are several different ways to do this. This parts list it just to give you an idea of what you will need. I spent about $130 or so for my parts, but let me tell ya. When you see that thing screaming down the street it makes it all worth it.

Battery:

Here is a radio that you might use. Like I said I had a spare one that I used.

Here is a pic with the fan installed. Like I said this solved my problem with overheating (under normal use...)

I also had some cracking of the front wheels so I glued some 1/4in copper tubing on the shafts and it seems to be holding up fine.

On a side note:

As someone else mentioned this thing has almost no suspension. Couple that with the fact that the tires are made of a very hard rubber (if not plastic.), and you will find that it needs a smooth surface to run on. When you hit small rocks in the road this thing hops around like crazy. Especially at 25+mph.

embpic, I like what you did with the aftermarket radio and controller. I'm thinking about making simular changes to of one mine. I bought one of each color. The steering of these cars is just not that good.

Extra battery

For the people who plan on keeping their cars stock but want an extra battery, Radio Shack has a cheap one on sale with a better charger than the one that came with the car:

http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=family

Pretty much any 9.6v will do, the higher the mah, the longer it will run, but the longer it will take to fully charge. Note that this is a NiMh battery rather than a Ni-Cd, but it shouldn't make a difference. You may have to clip the ribs in the battery compartment to make it fit.

Note: Use this advice at your own risk!

If you want the same type of battery that came with the car, RS has it too with the better charger:
