Overheat with new Electric H20 Pump

I am on travel and my wife was driving the Z28 when it happened. No running issues - she just noticed the gauge going high and she shut it down. She had the car towed home.

It has a newer (less than a year old) electric H20 pump. What is the best way for me to test/ check that the pump is working when I get home on Friday? I checked the coolant level in the overflow tank just last weekend.

Thanks

Re: Overheat with new Electric H20 Pump

first thing to check is the fuse and relay & wiring associated with the EWP

I have the Meziere, been on for 16 years and about 85k mi. Like any part be it mechanical or electric, they will eventually fail

yours is under a year old, early for a failure if it is the pump itself but it can happen

what brand do you have?

Thanks. I also have the Meziere pump. My second one in less than a year - the first one leaked out of the weep hole.

well like anything else they can break but personally I have had a very long life out of mine.

If it is bad I would think Meziere would replace it. I know they rebuild them for around $100 if out of warranty

I would look into the wiring/fuse first

Refilled the system. Fuses are good. Blue line leading into the relay is getting very hot and smokes. Tried a different relay with the same results.

What would cause that wire to get so hot?

Re: Overheat with new Electric H20 Pump

Heat is caused by high current draw.

What blue line, going to the pump relay? The load wire to the fan, or the signal wire to the relay? Did you use an online wiring diagram that we can reference? Is the diagram available at Meziere?

Pump motor is shorted or locked up. Can you hear it run when you turn it on?

Re: Overheat with new Electric H20 Pump

Pump is running (hear it and water is pumping), no unusual noise, does not get hot. Has a 20amp fuse in both the blue and orange lines and neither blew.

I talked with Meziere this morning. Going to re-solder the lead for the blue wire and try a different ground point.

Will post again later

Thanks

Re: Overheat with new Electric H20 Pump

While checking everything again the main power line (orange) slipped out of the connector. I then soldered and heat wrapped everything and tightened down the main grounding post where the black ground is connected. Ran for 30 minutes and took for a drive. Pump is running fine and relay is no longer hot. Hoping I fixed it.
