liquid air/aftercooler question

Do you guys think the benifits of running a 3 gallon fuel cell with IC in the trunk outweighs the added weight (water is heavy) as compared to running a small tank in the front of the car? I figure that 3 gallons of water & 8.3lbs a gallon + about another 1/2 gallon running through the pipes + the weight of the tank and tubing is about 30+ lbs at least..

for a drag car yes the benefits outway the detriments. I would look at a 5 gallon or like size cell though as that will give you some leeway on pump size, ability to cram in alot of ice.

Even if you used 3 gallons of liquid that isnt that much even with lines and all you are only looking at 40-50lbs total and you can then mount the intercooler where you want even the dash mounted way

Well, I found a vertical 4 gallon in summit 9"x10"x17" that I think will fit in the rear hatch that's $90. I need to measure.

What are you using for your pump steven (pn# if you have it)? I need to pick up another one.

Thanks.

I am using the mustang ice tank placed where the batteries used to be for the Vortech aftercooler. LJ was doing this when he hit into the 9sec. This works fairly well. I don't think a bigger tank than the mustang ice tank will help too much since the ice melts really fast and you need to keep emptying and replacing the ice in between runs.

I believe Tbryne had done something like the water tank in the trunk. You can call him to see, although he has move on to a ATI.

cheers

That looks really good.. the only problem is I would rather move a ice tank to the trunk than moving the battery because I can run a lightweight drag racing battery in front and not have to worry about all the relocation garbage (on off switch, box, vent, etc..). If I ran a lightweight battery and a tank in the rear it would probably weigh the same or less than an optima in the rear and a smaller ice box up front..

I ran a battery in my trunk for about a year and it was more trouble than it was worth IMHO.. and to do the relocation correctly costs $250+. A lightweight drag racing battery is $80. I think I'll go with a 4 gallon tank in the rear and just only fill it with 2-3 gallon's of ice/water and just leave the extra room just in case.

I had the tanks mounted in the back of the camaro (used 2 12x12x10 or something like that...) the tank size you are wanting will work as the 12" setups were quite tight but i had it all setup so i just tuned a valve to drain off some of the water to fill in more ice. (you do not have to run these full....) I had the line go straight out of the car so i just slid a bucket under the car and no mess under the car during the pitt's. All i would drain is the water to make sure there was enough room for ice.

I forget the pump part number but i did all my calculations so that staging and the 1/4 mile pass the water would be circulated. (just finguring gallons per min..) I got the pump from grainger, same exact pump that spearco/turbonetics sells for alot less money.

tbryne is selling all his blower stuff odd enough :S wonder what happened or if he just couldn't get it all straight or lost intrest.

Thanks! It'll look much sweeter when I dyno tune to 600-650rwhp. Aram's car looks very nice too.

cheers

Thanks!

Too bad it looks nothing like that right now.

The new combination should be awesome, have most of the parts, now just have to put them in the car.
