Pretty Sure I blew my engine - Any rebuild suggestions?

Came around a corner and jumped it. Rear end broke loose, hit the rev limiter and the car shut off. It won't start - just spits and sputters. Pretty sure that's it.

Any suggestions on when I put this thing back together what I should put in? Obviously forged pistons, but what else? I don't want to drop too much into it, but anything I should put in while I'll have it apart? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Justin

You probably blew off one of the hoses between the SC & the engine. This gives a very high air flow reading to the computer & basically floods the car.

Lonnie,
Are you talking about one of the intercooler hoses? I hadn't thought of that. It was (and still is) dark so I couldn't check anything. I'll look in the morning. Thanks for the input. Hopefully you're right!

You can also disconnect your MAF sensor & try to sart it. This will let it run in speed density mode. If this works, you just lost a hose connection.

Lonnie,
I checked the tubing like you suggested and sure enough one of the flex tubes between the IC and TB was off. Put it back together and runs great. Thanks a lot for your help!!!

I was admittedly thinking worst case scenario hoping to be wrong. The other good thing is this "scare" prepped my wife for the inevitable, which will make it easier when it does come. I was already thinking 355.

Thanks again.

Yeah, I owe him big. As it is, my insurance even covered the tow back to my house. Luckily it was the weekend and no shops were open - I'd have had it towed somewhere and paid a dude $100 to tell me what Lonnie did.

I was planning on around $3-4k. Good thing I just bought a house, huh?

Wink

I had that problem when the supercharger was first installed on the car. It kept blowing off intercooler hoses. Finally, I relocated the MAF sensor to near stock location. Way better driveability, and if a hose did blow off, it would still run. One night though, the only hose left which could cause a problem did, the t-body hose blew off and stranded me on the freeway. The 355 may be in your future, so get prepared.

Sounds to me like a broke timing chain right off hand..

Hopefully not,

Take a valve cover off if the above solution doesn't fix it and turn the crank by hand and see if valves are moving

Glad it was not a problem at all. It happens to me before a lot as well. I went to a 18 wheeler store and bought some major heavy duty clamps and doesn't happen anymore.

cheers

I was kind of surprised it happened. When I first popped the hood to look for anything obvious (water/oil/ rod sticking out the side of the engine) I didn't see it. It was actually the tube that comes up alongside the radiator from the intercooler that was off - I had to look for a while. If it happens again I may relocate the MAF as mentioned.
