WNY Guys: got my motor out tonight

Buddy got most of the work done today and Bob, Joe, and I finished up tonight and started to inspect/tear it down. I also did some detailing on the engine compartment. Damn, it sure is a pleasure taking it out from the bottom with a set of air tools on a hydraulic lift!!!

Anyway, it was extremely interesting that after ~8,000miles with many runs at the track with boost and more than a few with nitrous that the leakdown was 4-5% on each of 7 cylinders and just 8% on the worst one! We still didn't get the heads off, but if things still look good I think I will just put in new rings and bearings and leave the shortblock alone. I do have a new cam I want to try, but this will make the whole project easier and cheaper. I may go for a T-trim the way things are looking.

Anyway, just wanted to share my excitement! Any thoughts or ideas are welcome. The big remaining question is what to do about a transmission. The Street Twin was toast, so it's going back to McLeod for a rebuild, but I got my moneys worth out of that clutch for sure. I completely wore the friction material off and a lot of the internal parts were blued from heat. Those patented 3rd gear starts will do that to a clutch .

Looking forward to seeing everyone on the 11th.

Just a quick question but how long/difficult does it take to lower the engine and tranny out from under the car with a lift? I have access to a lift and I'm doing my heads and cam this winter and just wanted to know if its easier to do it this way.

Thanks, Waswa

Way easier with a lift, engine/tranmission jack and air tools. maybe 4h with no sweat. Out the top is a major production in comparison. If you have the right tools, it's easier to take it out from the bottom than to do the job with the motor in the car.

Jason: I will be finishing inspecting the motor tomorrow and will have a better idea of what I am going to do. I'll let you know.
