Which s/c should i look into getting?jmh96z28 09-28-2006, 12:47 AM Im looking to have my lt1 put out 700 rwhp, but un sure what s/c I should get. My first choice was to get a F1 procharger. CALL911 09-28-2006, 04:55 AM 700 RWHP is not unattainable with the D1SC or its equivilant the Vortec T-trim, but it will be difficult. It would have to be accomplished by maxing it out and running somewhere around 18#'s of boost or so, more than likely running race gas, with a FAST engine management system. Some, have been able to do it with slightly less than this, but it is difficult and rare. The easier way IMO would be to go with the F1 unit. This will make more power easier, and put you with less effort elswhere in your car to attain your goal of 700 RWHP. Osmosis 09-28-2006, 01:11 PM I"m not sure if you can find a turbo kit? A buddy of mine has a older lightning and he went from two different powerdynes, to a Novi 2000, and finally, a single turbo. The turbo makes a ton of power...a TON. He has an adjustible waste gate and can control the boost from within the dirver compartment. He runs low LOW 11's and can easily get into the 10's....but he does not want to put a cage in his truck. I've been looking at selling my s/c and purchasing a turbo, or making a turbo kit, but I'm sick of working on my Z. Maybe next year bowtiepwr 09-28-2006, 02:41 PM 700 RWHP is not unattainable with the D1SC or its equivilant the Vortech T-trim,... The easier way IMO would be to go with the F1 unit. You cant go wrong with either though. You will see it split about 50/50 the opinions on that one. I am going with a ProCharger, mostly because I got a good deal on it. And their customer service is pretty decent. Both are pretty nice set ups from what I have researched. Hopefully someone who has been there done that, will chime in and let you know whcich one they liked better ... CALL911 09-28-2006, 07:49 PM HardcoreRM125 is correct. Even though I am partial to Procharger, the Vortec systems are just as good IMO. If you have an extra $7,500 or so on top of the expected $10,000 it pretty much costs for the motor and tune - supercharger, then you can do a turbo as suggested as well. Usually price keeps people away, but the same could be said about supercharged LT1's as well. HardcoreRM125 09-29-2006, 12:41 AM ^ He makes some good points. Turboes, with a good front mount, are going to set you back some SERIOUS cash. Its WAY cheaper to build a blower car. And for what most people are shooting for, turbos are just a bragging point. You can make some crazy power with a good centrifugal supercharger. I'm talking 500-600RWHP on pump gas, stock PCM, not being uncommon. Several guys are significantly higher with their blower cars. A blower set up looks a little cleaner under the hood than does a turbo set up as well. And I personally, am not crazy, about the rear mount turbo set ups ... Thats not to deter you from Turbos, their ****ing awesome. Just not needed to make serious power from your car. Another thing to think of, if you want to build a budget set up, you CAN find used blowers at excellent prices. Try finding a used turbo. Theres alot of used blowers floating around cause people blow their stock shortblock, then need money for a rebuild and end up selling off the blowers. jmh96z28 09-29-2006, 01:48 AM Sounds good. Should i just look on the boards for used ones, or do you know of a special place to be looking. HardcoreRM125 09-29-2006, 01:00 PM Keep an eye out on the board here ... In the parts for sale section. At least on here, you can feel a little safer than on Ebay. Look for someone who is a known good seller. Look their name up in the search function if you have to. Ya usually see on on here every week or two. And dont jump for the first one you find. Wait until you can get what you want. | ||
