Vortech S-trim

I am looking for a streetable and relatively quiet supercharger, but I want enough power to go 10's.
I have a gen 1 small block 383 with forged bottom end, 8:1 comp, Trick flow 195 heads and a Comp xe 224/236 .573/.593 116lsa cam single plane efi intake with custom elbow and 75mm t/b. I'm using a n Electromotive tec2 and either 55 or 72 lb inj.
I would like to know what kind of power/times guys have made wit an s-trim.
Thanks, Steve

Re: Vortech S-trim

I also say the T-Trim is a better choice. It is a little louder but the ability for more power makes up for that.

>I just noticed that he has a D1SC so going to a T-trim is probably the same power. I think he wants to go stealthy

is that a good blower cam? 116Lsa?

Re: Vortech S-trim

I would agree with the other guys and go with at least a T-Trim. I just converted from an S to a T on my setup and am glad i did. I think i was working that S-trim. And as far as my experience with noise, the T-trim i have now is no louder then the S-trim i had.

>No I meant going stealthy with a S-trim quiet model. The noise is from the louder models i.e. T-trim, D1SC, etc.

Re: Vortech S-trim

My d1sc and mondo bypass (to atmosphere) is REAL LOUD! I don't know if I care so much about stealthy as I do my sanity while cruising. The reason for looking toward Vortech is the bad luck I've had with my Procharger. My bro has an s-trim on his stang with 10k plus miles and it has performed flawlessly.
The 116 lsa cam seems to work well for me, I have about 15" vac at idle and the car went 11.49 @120mph with an f'd-up motor and 10psi last year. This year with a new motor and 15psi it feels great but I'm running out of injector (55lb), so I am trying to run a staged setup with 4 extra 30lb injectors. I had to send the blower back to ATI before I could tune it though.

LJ ran 9.9x at 140 in a full weight LT1 car with a Vortech S-trim at 12 psi.

Re: Vortech S-trim

How much does the car weigh? An S-trim is going to make mid 500's rwhp depending on drivetrain losses (manny tranny vs. auto, converter stall, etc.). If the car is light you could certainly see 10's or even high nines. But in terms of running a number, a lot depends on how well the car is set up for the drags. I've got a buddy with a 346SBF and an S-trim in his Mustang running 9.80's. But the car weighs only 3,200lbs, has a Lenco and decent suspension, etc. When I had an S-trim, I couldn't break into the 10's without N2O, but my car weighs over 4,000lbs with driver and does not have a drag type suspension.

Anyway, like I said, expect rwhp in the mid 500's or even 600 if everything else is optimized and figure your potential performance from there based on weight, traction, etc.

I don't think the T-trim is that much better than the S-trim.

S-trim = 1,000cfm ~650hp*
T-trim = 1,200cfm ~800hp*

*POTENTIAL engine (flywheel) hp. I am currently running a Procharger F1 (1500cfm) and making ~700rwhp (through a loose converter) without the N20. Figuring ~20% loss, that's about 900hp. At least 100 shy of the theoretical maximum.

Re: Vortech S-trim

The compressor cfm is based on some boost level. Obviously, the more air the engine flows, the lower the boost will be, the higher the total flow will be. LJ's 140 mph at ~3750 lb indicates nearly 800 fwhp from an S-trim. Conversely, I was only able to run 133 mph at the same weight with a T-trim running the same pulley ratio as he was. That indicates I was only making about 680 fwhp.
