carburators again

hey guys, I need some info on my 2nd gen 77 camaro's carb. I recently had to have my carb replaced, and i'm looking to get something with a little more performance to it. I'm looking at a holley carb, right now i've got what I believe is a stock rochester carb, (2 barrel) and I want to upgrade to a holley 4 barrel. is this possible without replacing anything else, i.e. the intake manifold, if not, what would i need to replace. Everything in it is stock right now. Thanks!

you can use, but not suggested, an adaptor plate.
but since a SBC chevy intake is cheap, especially used, i'd get a performer intake and carb.
you might be able to get a kit from summit or jegs for under 300, including EVERYTHING you need for the swap

you could always search ebay for used intakes

just some thoughts

Sticking a Holley 4bbl on a factory 2bbl intake with an adapter won't help much and it may cause problems of it's own.

You should be able to pick up a used Edlebrock Performer intake online or at a local speed shop for $50-60 in good condition. Or you can buy a complete carb + intake combo from Summit, Jegs, etc. at a discount.

you're stuck with replacing the instake or just a replacement type carb.
i don't see any other way around it.

junk yard? for a used intake?
SBC's are a dime a dozen to get parts for
visit a local swap meet.

A little 600 CFM Holley universal replacement 4bbl would feed that 305 just fine. They are $250 new with electric choke or you can pick one up from just about anywhere used for $75-80 in rebuildable condition, $100-150 in good condition. Just make sure nobody's monkeyed with it. You don't want to deal with someone else's ham-fisted tuning efforts. Get one that's relatively new and never been molested, if possible.
