Went to have the rims put on today. Fronts went on perfectly. Rears (18x9.5 Z06) wouldn't fit. The center wouldn't clear the hub and therefore the studs didn't have enough thread to catch and the rim wouldn't have a completely flat sitting surface.

As of now, tomorrow morning I'm going to grind the hub down enough to slide the wheel over it. I'd be suprised if it's a 32nd" that needs to be ground. So close, so close.

What did all yall with Corvette wheels do?

NOTE: The front (17) and rear (18) centers are the same. I.E. The front center won't clear the rear hub either.

 

Appearantly it's a common problem with using newer wheels on the older rearends. Just bust out the dremel and sand paper and go to town. And don't forget the digicam while you're at it.

Chris!!! Thanks man! Holy crap that is a relief. No pics yet, but while the car was on the lift with fronts installed and rears hanging....the car was glorious.

Its just about 1/32"..... 0.030" to be exact. That's how much larger the rear hubs are than the front hubs, up until late 96 or early 97 models. Most people grind/sand the inside diameter of the opening in the wheel.

 

Oh goody, then I shouldn't have any problems with mine if I ever buy some. Or atleast I hope I won't.

 

my afs wheels took some pounding by me to get them to seat against the hub. The use of the impact gun help to insure to sat

 

UPDATE

Ground the driver's side hub, not enough obviously. I put the pass wheel/tire on (clear on drivers was drying where a little chrome started chipping). I tightened it down and now it's stuck on there. I mean STUCK!

I ***-a-long'ed my wheel/tire to the rear wheel on my little brother's Bird and it just pulled my car (on jack) so I stopped. That's how much pressure there is. What can I do? How much does cold really affect it? I was going to go lay some bags of ice on it for an hour or so--see if that helps

Problem solved! Rears are on and fronts are getting mounted in like 15 minutes. How did I get the stuck wheel off? One Word: BFH

Why would you do that... very dangerous. The stress could fracture the wheel at the hub. The wheel may not properly "center" on the conical lugs.

 

Definately a big improvement.

Now go show the Mach a thing or two.

 

There he is. I knew you'd check here that's why I didn't email you. Yeah, that Mach 1 could probably toast me. I think I need plugs/wires badly. But, I'm a lazy muslim so am going to wait until I get headers to change them. Talk to you later Chris.
