Weld Rim Size for Car
Weld Rim Size for Car
I was trying to find the right rim size or if anyone has a part number for the Weld Draglites for a 1998 Camaro. Going to run skinnies in front and 8 in in rear, so if anyone knows what the right knows is please let me know.
All you can get for the "skinnies" is a 15x3.5" with 1.75" backspace. That MAY require a 5/16" spacer on the front, and longer studs to meet NHRA tech. Not sure how the 15's fit with the LS1 brakes.
In the back, the 15x8" with a 5.5" backspace will work. In the LT1's you need to grind the brake fins down, not sure what you need to do on the LS1. With this wheel, the outside edge of the tire will sit just the same as my Weld's, click on "Trailer Queen...." in the signature. Those are 15x10" 7.5" backspace.
You can get the part #'s off the Weld website.

15X10 with a 7.5" backspace was no problem. The "caliper" interference is not related to width or backspace.... its the center disc of the wheel that hits. I ran 28x11.5-15" QTP's and had no problem with any rubbing on the inner fender or the fender lip. My car does sit maybe 1/2" higher than stock because of the drag launch springs.
I did find that the 28's grew enough at 120+MPH trap speeds that the axle had to be moved back about 1/4" to eliminate rubbing of the tread on the front (metal) edge of the wheel opening. But with a 26" or 27" tire, you wouldn't have that problem.
I had already hammered my inner fenders a bit for 17x11 ZR1's with 315/35-17's, and had cut the outer edges of the jounce bumper brackets off.... but that didn't appear to be necessary with the 15x10 Welds.
One thing you will find is that the "fit" is different on each car... I've seen many people post that they put the 17x11's on with no problem at all (I had to hammer) and others who put the 15x10's and 11.5" wide tires on and had interference. Seems like there are a lot of variables in how the rear part of the cars are thrown together at the factory.
