would it be pointless to go with a 17" DR?
would it be pointless to go with a 17" DR?
Currently running the SS 10 spoke wheels on the car, seriously thinking about picking up a set of drag radials for it, but wondering if I'd be more or less killing the advantage of a DR by mounting them on the 17" wheels, vs. the stock 16" or even dropping to a 15"? I still have the stock salad shooters around, and have seen threads saying that a 245/50/16 DR will hook better than the 275/40/17, and of course, the "serious" guys are all running 15" wheels.
To be 100% honest, the car is 99% street/1% strip. I might go to the track twice a year. But then I also don't drive the car like it's an F1 car either. I'm much more concerned about straight line hook than I am about cornering hook. In all honesty, I'd LOVE to mount up a set of 15" drag wheels, but the SS wheels look SOOOOOOO good on the car I hate to pull them off, and properly fitting 15" wheels are really more money than I want to spend right now. On the other hand, the rear tires are nearly bald, thus I need to do something about them really soon. On the upside, it's not my DD (I have the work truck for that), and living in Phoenix, wet weather performance is not a factor at all to me. Treadwear is also not a factor. The only thing stopping me from going full slick is not having the two grand to drop on a 9" rear end.
