which would be better..?
which would be better..?
my rear tires are pretty close to bein warn out (they were slightly overinflated and the middle is about gone now) im thinkin of goin down to a smaller size tire because of price, and i found a 245/40/18 bfg drag radial for around 170, would this grip better than a normal 285/35/18??? and anyone have any other recomendations? i just want a low priced tire this time around... last time i spent way too much for these tires, hardly use the extra traction and they hardly lasted anytime, and they didnt grab off the line well at all, best i managed was a 2.1 60' the one timne i was at the track on them
(no it wasnt from burning them off the fronts are in just as bad shape but the centers arent warn as bad)

Re: which would be better..?
How do you use the car? If its a daily driver, the drag radials are going to be worn out in a couple thousand miles, and may prove to be extremely slippery in the wet. If its a clear weather, weekend driver, they would be decent.
Tire Rack has quite a few 275 and 285/35-18 tires in the $160-170 price range. Have you looked at those? You can look at the "survey" results for each tire for a rough indication of how much traction they have in the wet, dry, etc.

its a daily driver, but i figured the drag radials would last at least 10k. ok so that leaves them off the list, i think ill just go with the hankook 275/35/18.. but how much will this throw my speedo off? its set for the 285/35/18 right now...
Re: which would be better..?
If you've got the correct diameter in the PCM for the 285/35-18, using a 275 will produce about a 1% error..... at a true 60 MPH your speed will read 60.6 MPH.... not enough difference to worry about.
