will tires from 17x9s fit 17x9.5s?
Depends on the tire size... you need to pick a size, then pick a manufacturer, then go to Tire Rack and look up the recommended rim width for that specific tire. Typical ranges of acceptable widths:
245/45-17: 7.5" - 9.0"
255/40-17: 8.5" - 10.0"
275/40-17: 9.0" - 11.0"
285/40-17" 9.5" - 11.0"
In general, the small difference between a 9.0" and a 9.5" wheel will allow you to fit any of the above tires on either wheel. Don't sweat the 1/2" difference in some of the recommended width ranges.

There is no question that a 275/40-17 will fit on BOTH 9" and 9.5" wide wheels. The stock SS/WS6 wheels are 9" with the 275's, and just about everyone uses the 275's on their 9.5" wheels. I've used them on 17x9.5" OZ Monte Carlos, and on 17x9.5" ZR1 replicas.
