Will 265's fit a 16x8?

This for a 1999 Suburban BTW. 265/70/16. Stock tires are 245/75/16. My dad figured the error and it would only be off about 1/2mph @ 100mph.

Anyways, I told him if it's got a 8 inch rim it ain't gonna fit. He says it will, who's right?

Dad knows best - sort of

Depends on the specific tire, but most manufacturers recommend a wheel width of 7"-9" for a 265/70-16, and several of them use the 8.0" wide wheel for measuring the tires. No problems at all using that wheel on an 8.0" wide wheel.

When the sidewall height goes up, the range of wheel widths goes up.

My calculator says the error is 1.2mph at 100mph. But the actual error depends on the specific diameter measurement for the actual tire you had and the actual tire you plan to replace it with. The tire diameter varies +/- 0.1" from tire to tire brand and model.

I just went off and searched for a sec and it looks like 99 Suburban 5spokes are 16X7.

Every 265/70-16 I looked at on Tire Rack indicated you could run it on a 7" wide wheel. Most were 7" - 9", one was 7" - 8.5", a couple were 7" - 9.5". You have to verify that for the specific tire you are thinking of buying.l
