Widest wheel with manual rack
Widest wheel with manual rack
Anyone know what the widest front wheel I can run with my manual rack is? The stock wheels hit the tie rods.I hate the fact that I have to run skinnies with this rack but I didn't know it until after I installed it. Is it possible to have the stock wheels narrowed? I know you can have wheels widened but what about going the other way. I just want to keep it as safe ( i know its not anyway) as possible on the street and I don't want to ride on skinnies all day.

Yes, you can have stock wheels narrowed. A buddy of mine had a 30th SS convertible, and was running Grand Sport 17x11's in the back, and a 17x9" SS wheel, narrowed to about 6" wide on the front. Looked very good. Go to the WS6.com website... he has a link to a guy in Monrovia, CA that does the work..... that's also where my buddy had his done.
Re: Widest wheel with manual rack
I'm running 17x9 fronts, 275 40ZR17, with the Madman Manual Rack, and I rub at full lock, but only very slightly. I would say that an 17x8 would clear fine. I'd also warn you that turning a wide wheel with that box isn't exactly fun. Be better off with a much narrower tire/wheel combo up front. I'm thinking of getting my rims narrowed to 6".

So if i went with a 6" wide wheel i would be ok? i guess thats as long as its a 17" so that it clears the "ball joint' where the rack connects to the spindle

Also when you do install it be sure to use Red Loctite on the bolts that connect the bump steer kit to the spindles. I literally had one come off while driving down the road, not a pleasant experience. Wore a nice little gouge down the inside of my rim.
