Call me black or incorrect, but in my theory: Wheel = the entire thing. My wheel fell off, rim and tire. Rim is the "wheel", and tire is the tire. The tire goes around the rim to make it a wheel. In any case, atleast *I* always know what I'm talking about.

The English language is ever changing and evolving. So, you're technically right, but for all practical purposes both of you are right. If you say rim or wheel when speaking in ref to a car, and everybody understands what you are talking about, then who is right?
Webster has to change/add words as the language evolves, not the other way around.
