Whats the widest 16" tire I can fit?
Whats the widest 16" tire I can fit?
I will buy what ever width & backspace rim I need but I want it to be a 16". How wide of a tire will fit? I like the looks of a 295/50/15 but dont know what is close to that in a 16...I did use the search feature too.
Re: Whats the widest 16" tire I can fit?
Well, this doesn't exactly answer your question, but... My last Z28 had 255/50/16s on the stock saladshooters.
Obviously you should be able to go pretty wide, at least 285 or so before you need to start looking at massaging stuff. Now the question is if you can find the size wheel and tire you're looking for.

What kind of tires..... street tires, road race tires, drag radials, slicks?
Are you interested in matching the stock tire diameter (25.65"), or willing to go to the max diameter that will fit without body work (~28") ?
The big question isn't what fits.... with 16" tires, there is not much available.

You do realize that putting a 28" tire on your car is going to slow it down, and make it feel like you swapped in about a 2.96 rear gear in place of your 3.23's? Good for gas mileage I guess. Not good for the speedometer unless you recalibrate the PCM.
You can get a BFG Radial T/A in 265/50-16. They will fit on an 8" wide wheel, and have a 26.5" diameter. Then there's the 295/50-16 with a 27.6" diameter, also fits on an 8" wide wheel, according to BFG. The Radial T/A's are sort of hard to find.
Whether the 295's will rub depends on the offset of your wheels. Do you know what offset the wheels you bought have?
The Radial T/A is a decent tire, but its not a "high performance" tire.
