Want these wheels, can't make sense of FAQ, help?
Ok i read almost all of the FAQ for the wheel forum and i'm more confused about wheel fitment than before i started.
Basically i would like to buy some Ruff Racing 278 style HYPERBLACK 18x8.5 Fronts and 18x9.5 Rears Bolt pattern 5x120 with a 20
+, 35+ offset. (yes that info is directly from a website
)
I chose these because i like the way they look. However i have no idea if they will fit my car.
I have a 99 z28, no modifications at all. Will i need to do any fender work to get these wheels on there? Will a 25mm offset make the front wheels stick out past the fenders? Or tuck them in?
What about tires? Something like these perhaps? 275/35/18 front and 295/35/18.
Yup this thread is related to one of my other threads.

Re: Want these wheels, can't make sense of FAQ, help?
For starters, they are not even the right bolt pattern. Those are BMW wheels with a 5 x 120mm bolt pattern. You need as 5 x 4.75" (120.65mm) bolt pattern. They will bolt on your car, but they will not bolt on correctly, and there has been significant debate here as to whether they increase the risk of broken studs or a wheel coming off. Some people have posted they run that bolt pattern "with no problems", others have cited instances of broken studs and loosened lugs.
Its your right to put any wheels you want on the car (and to suffer the liability of an accident resulting from that action). But I can't, in a clear conscience recommend that you do so.
Sorry the FAQ doesn't meet your needs.... maybe we need to get rid of it.

Re: Want these wheels, can't make sense of FAQ, help?
Thank you very much for the heads up about the bolt pattern. I will wait to find the correct pattern.
I think the FAQ is very thorough. I do not believe you should get rid of it. Perhaps i should have read it a few times. There is a huge amount of information in the FAQ. It is a lot to digest the first time around.
If i find the right bolt pattern, what then should i look for? How about those offsets, are they kosher?

Re: Want these wheels, can't make sense of FAQ, help?
Front, 8.5" wide wheel with a +20mm offset puts the outside edge of the tires very close to the outside of the fender... it will be barely under the fender, may cause some rubbing of the tire on the plastic fender liners.
Go to the FAQ, look at the last post (page 2) and click on the link under 9" wheels, that takes you to pictures of a 9" wide +25mm offset wheel. Decide if you like the front tires out that far. An 8.5" wide +20mm wheel will set 1/3 of an inch deeper in the fender than that picture.
Back, 9.5" wide 30mm offset will also put the tire near the outside edge of the fender. Pretty much the same place the rear wheels are in the pictures mentioned above.
You have to decide if you like the wheels out that far, or want them a bit deeper in the wheel wells (= larger offsets)
I added some offset recommendations to the last post in the FAQ. It will show you the offsets you need to locate the tires at the edge of the fender, deeper in like the WS6/SS wheels, or even as deep as the stock 16x8" wheels.
