Two Qs... tire sizes.. and rotating?

I have stock chrome Z28 5 spokes on my 93 Trans Am. The wheels are off a 98 Z28.

I tried rotating my wheels last week... the front ones would NOT go on the back. They LOOKED the same, but the hub in the center of the rear rotors felt like it was like 0-1mm too big to fit into the center of the wheel... some kinda heat warping? What should I do about that?

Second... what would happen if I tried putting 245/45-16s on the rear as opposed to 245/50-16s?

Thanks,

Drew

Check out Injuneer's post here in the Wheel/Tire FAQ for a good answer and solution for your problem.

Your speedo would read approximately 10% fast (i.e. show you as going 66MPH when you're actually doing 60MPH).

Plus, I think the 245/45's would look goofy, especially if the fronts were 245/50's. Unless the car is lowered, it looks better with the stock diameter of tire, so going with a 245/45 on a 17" wheel would look fine, but on a 16" would look too small and have too big a gap to the fender. That's just opinion, though. I use 275/40-17 front and 315/35-17 rear... but they're the same overall diameter as the 245/50-16 stockers.

actually if you calculate it out, the diameter comes out to only 4% smaller.

stock is 25.7" with a circumference of 40.4"

the 245/45 has a dia. of 24.7" and a cir. of 38.8"

so at a speedo reading of 60mph you'd be traveling 2.4mph slower

1. Circumference = Diameter X PI

2. Post "wheel and tire" questions on (surprise) the "Wheel and Tire" forum. Moving.......

OH MY GOD!!!

i can't beleive i messed up that calculation...that's funny. you can tell i wasn't awake yet.

i gave the area of the tire (A=pie x radius^2)...haahaa...not the circumference. i'm a dumbass....ignore me today

although the percentage i gave should still be the same.
