Is this tire too small for an FBody?

I was thinking about getting 235/60-15's for track use on my car. I wanted the lighterweight 15(probably convo pro's) but I didn't want to run a bigger 275/50-15 or whatever it is because I still have a 10 bolt.

Basically my question is, do you think this tire will grip enough to pull low 1.7 short times? It's a bit narrower, but its got a bigger sidewall, about a 5.5" one. The only things I'm planning on are a little exhaust work and maybe a tune. BTW, I have a McLeod ST with the steel flywheel. I might swap it out for a lighter one, maybe maybe not.

Any input? Thanks!

Why would a 275 be any worse on your stock rear than a grippy smaller tire?

A Convo Pro on the rear will hang out and look bad imho...The 15x8.5 has a 5" backspace and hang out if you use a radial ( I have done this...) its not so bad with an ET Street because bias ply tires don't have much sidewall bulge. If your heart is set on a Centerline the Telstars 15x8 with a 5.5" bacspace is a little better, but the wheel is heavier than a convo pro...

My advice would be to get some 16x8 stockers and mount up a 255 50 16 BFG DR or ET Street Radial and have at it. GMHTP got 1.64 60's with the 255 50 16 MT ET Radials (roughly a 26"x10" tire) ...Not too shabby...

My original idea was to get a 16x8 lightweight wheel and put that tire on there. I'm just going for...somthing, and I needed every advantage I could think of. Since the lighter wheels are 5-10lbs lighter EACH...figured that gave me a better chance. BTW, did GMHTP run that short time with an auto or M6 car?

My point is that if you're getting traction with a 235, you have just as good of a chance of breaking your rear if you get traction with a 275. Traction is traction and too much of it could break your stock 10-bolt with enough power or wear.

What I mean is that if you hook up with enough force to break your rear (and you obviously want traction if you're mentioning 1.7 short times as a goal), why does it matter if you're running a 215 or a 345?

Re: Is this tire too small for an FBody?

Yea I know what you're saying. But my 1.7 short time goal is going to be spinning, not dead hooking. If I have a 10.5 inch tire I have a better chance of dead hooking and shattering peices, but with the 8 inch tire I'm pretty sure I won't dead hook ever, but I wanted to make sure this choice isn't TOO small for me to cut a 1.7. That probably didn't make sence...I understand what I'm saying, and that's what matters

Thanks for the help guys!
