Tire size differences

Ok i have 225/60/16 all way around on my 1994 z28 and seem to work fine for daily driving.
I need 2 new back tires and the front ones are still good would it be ok to put 245/50/16 's on the back and leave the 225/60/16 's on the front.

I dont have money to get all four would this tire setup effect the handling any and would i have any other problems.

ps. posted this in here because tire section doesnt get as many hits.

Re: Tire size differences

the 225's are about 26.6" tall and the 245's are about 25.6". I wouldn'e see any real problem as far as handling because it really only 1/2 diff on the bottom( ride hight )

Re: Tire size differences

If you have ABS, different diameter tires front and back will cause the sensor to think one set of tires is skidding and activate abs under anything more than light braking. Quite annoying.

Re: Tire size differences

wouldnt the ride height difference cause the speedo to be incorrect?

That could be because people don't post in the proper forums

Re: Tire size differences

Its the rear tire diameter that affects the speedo. If his Z28 came from the factory with the Z-rated 245/50-16 his speedo will be showing the correct speed. If it came from the factory with the non-Z rated 235/55-16's it will be "off" by about 2%. He needs to look at the door sticker to see what tire option the car had from the factory.

A small difference in diameter between the front and back should not affect the ABS. I run 28's (slicks) in the back and 26's in the front and didn't have a problem when the car still had the ABS system.
