The 712 even scored higher in Hydroplane resistance and wet traction.
I've had both the sumitomo's and the Kumho 712's. It's night and day. The Kumho's are relatively worthless IMO. Horrible dry traction and wet traction is an oxymoron; there is none. I'm not even trying to quote specs. This is what I've experienced.
I admitt that I have a realatively narrow spectrum of experience w/ alot of the tires mentioned above. I'm sure that there is a lot more out there that are great deals. There are just so many variables that you have to take into account when buying a tire. Don't make a snap judgment just because it worked for someone else. Use what everyone has experienced, and make a desicion based on what you now know and what your needs are.

I know the ratings aren't regulated, but its been my experience that with that amount of difference in the spread there is a noticable difference in tread wear and traction even between different manufacturers.

Had this been comparing a 280 vs 320, I could see the 300-320 from a different manufacturer providing better traction than the Kumho @ 280, but for a tire rated at 400? No. Especially when you are comparing a tire that is considered summer only to an all season. All seasons don't run the softer rubber because the softer rubber doesn't do so well in the cold.
