Slick v.s Homemade Slick (dumb question)

This may be one of the dumbest questions on here but I have always wondered. What would be the difference of buying slicks v.s making your own by burning down all of the tread....Now I know this may be a dumb question but I dont know much about tires and I was curious.....

Thanks for answering my stupid question

If you ever feel a slick its somewhat tackier feeling than a regular tire. The contact area is much softer (small rocks will stick into a slick whereas they won't stick in a street tire) Heat them up with a burnout and they become extremely tacky. A street tire with no tread gives very little traction IMO. hope that helps

it is all about the tread compound and the sidewall....not the lack of tread.

A wore out street radial is going to do you no good at the track.

Drag slicks are designed so that the sidewall will wrinkle, thereby increasing the footprint.
