Re: Recommended combo

Nothing unusual about staggering the wheel sizes front to rear... that's the standard C5 approach, and used by many people here on their F-Bodies. For tire sizes, look at the FAQ stickied at the top of the page, or this thread, which asked the same question yesterday.

http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=396032

Putting a bigger rim size in the back will not "raise the rear end"..... that's why you choose the correct tire size by matching the stock tire diameter, keeping the same tire diameter front and rear.

That sounds fine.

You actually have alot of options for the rear, like 285, 295, 305, 315.

I put 335's on the rear of mine but I wouldn't recommend this unless you want to do alot of modding to get them to fit.

Most people I've noticed have 275 front and 295's rear on the street. Also alot of people go ahead and do 18's all around like myself, IMHO 18's all around looks better.

Re: Recommended combo

yeah, but if I go to 275 in the front, I would have to get 275/40 and that would look funny cuz the profile would be bigger in the front than in the back... maybe I should get 18" on all fours like you said

Re: Recommended combo

yes you would have to get a 40 series tire up front and a 35 series out back.

It doesn't really look all that funny, but if you think it will bother you that much go ahead and get 18's all around.

Where did ANYONE suggest doing something stupid like using the "same profile". If you looked at the thread I referenced instead of over reacting and getting defensive and all bent out of shape, you would have seen that I recommended getting a narrow tire for the front, a wider tire for the rear, and selecting the appropriate "profile" to keep them close to the same outer diameter.

Yes, if you select the wrong tires (or like a "rake" ) you can raise the back of the car.
and i find it unusual thats my opinion you have yours.
Thank you for clarifying that. We'll let the guy who asked the question decide what he prefers.

you would have a diffrent diameter if you had 17s in front and 18s in back both with stock 275 45s .
Same response as above.... no one suggested the same profile. You made an assumption, and it was incorrect.
i wouldnt put 18s on a car why not put spinners too.why is it a guy asks for a opinion and some one else has to always say something about someone elses.
Go back and read the original post.... he didn't ask for an opinion. He already decided he wants a 17 in the front and an 18 in the back. He asked for the required tire sizes. I directed him to the correct tire sizes, including the correct profiles. You seem to feel your answer is the only acceptable one. New flash... it isn't. There are people here running 18's, 19's and 20's. I personally wouldn't, but if they ask me for help with the correct tire size, I'm going to tell them the correct tire size, not tell then they are "unusual". Different strokes for different folks.

I personally don't like 19's or 20's, but I respect the fact that some people prefer to use them. That's their choice. My personal preference - and what I run on the street - is the same as yours.... 17x9.5 275/40-17 in the front, and 17x11 315/35-17 in the back. But I don't expect everyone here to like that selection. I also run 26x4.5-15 skinnies in the front, and 28x10.5-15W ET Drags in the rear, and many people have told me they don't like the resulting "rake"..... but its my choice.... and I know the 28's work a lot better with a 300-shot off the line .

why would you want such a small profile its bad for performance on the strip
He didn't say anything about using them on "the strip"..... once again, that's your (incorrect) assumption. Many people on this forum are more interested in overall handling, cornering capabilities, etc. They deserve an answer just like those of us who prefer to fo in a straight line, 1/4-mile at a time.

my 315 35 17 is small enough.id rather 15s with more rubber if you want to go fast strait line. he asked a qustion im tryiing to give him my opinion if you have a diffrent one just say it dont need to say im wrong thanks.
You didn't answer his question. Instead of telling him what size tires to use, you told him somehting else, that served no useful purpose.

You're entitled to your opinion... its just unfortunate that you chose to put the guy's choice in wheels down, rather than answer his question about tire size.

Thanks for trying to help. Have a nice day
