questions about getting new wheels.

I have some wheels that i dont like on my 97 z28 and i plan on getting some corvette wheels. I dont know if i like the older 5 spoke ones the corvette has or the newer ones.

I plan on going with 17" rims or 18" wheels. But i want to know how it will effect me to get bigger wheels and tires? Like will it mess with the speedometer alot? I know that the speedometer reads 16" rims and going bigger will slow it down some right? like it wil read 50mph and i will actually be going 60....

Also do 18" wheels fit on the camaro? without having to do anything?

THANKS

ALSO what are the best brands for tires for my camaro? I want some good ones.

The calibration of the speedometer/odometer is based on the outside diameter of the tire. The stock tires on your 97 Z28 were either:

235/55-16 (26.2") - Base tire

245/50-16 (25.7") - Optional Z-rated tires, RPO QLC

As long as you match the outside tire diameter you can run any size wheels you want 15", 16", 17", 18", 19"...... Its the tire that matters, not the wheel.

245/45-17 = 25.7"
275/40-17 = 25.7"
285/40-17 = 26.0"
315/35-17 = 25.7"
245/40-18 = 25.7"
275/35-18 = 25.6"
285/35-18 = 25.9"
285/30-19 = 25.7"
etc......

People are running 20" wheels on 4th Gens.

Which Corvette wheels you choose will be important. Some of the C6 wheels require large adapters/spacers because of the large offset/backspace. If you don't chose the correct offset you can end up with the tires rubbing the inside of the wheel well, or sticking outside the fenders. Again, all this is covered in the FAQ, which Brent and I (and several other contributors) appear to have wasted our time writing......

These are the ones that i like. Cant decide.

lol ,I appreciate the replies. Injuneer i understand now and thanks for taking the time to write all that/copy some from the FAQ. I just could'nt understand it for some reason when i looked through the FAQ. Which i know sounds dumb. Now i guess just give me some opinions on different tires. When i went to bell tire last year to get a estimate of how much the stuff would cost i had no idea on the wheels. I think if i remember the ones he had picked out for me where falcons, and he had bigger sized ones in the back and smaller sized for the front. So what would be your choice of tire, and rims out of the two i posted. Im embarrased to post my car on here again with the wheels i have now so i guess you can click on my link below to see my car on motoropia.
