Post 245 vs. 275 drag radials

Before to long I am going to need new tires. I am thinking that I am going to get regular tires for normal use, and just get a set of 245 drag radials for my stock wheels. I have 275 nitto dr's on now and am not to impressed.

So the question is, what is the advantage of having a drag radial in either size? (245/275)

Or i guess I could just get a set of slicks for the track.

i would think that with a narrower tread (245) you would get more sidewall wrinkle (so to speak) cause its a taller tire with a softer sidewall
but i'm kinda just guessing

My friends say the 275 is better than the 315. On there cars anyway. The 315's just don't seem to hook.

There is another issue here that escapes most people. Think about rotating mass. A 17 rim is havier and slower than a 16 rim. I have been playing with this for the last 3 months. I have found that on my car 16in rims with BFG drag radials will ET about 3-4 tenths faster than 17x9.5 rims. That is the equivalent of adding 40hp.

A 255/16/50 BFG will handle alot of hp and high rpm launch with the right chassie setup.

That 16 intch rim will let the sidewall wrinkle more and let you hook better. Would you consider a 15 inch rim?
