Question for those who have weld draglite fronts...

I'd like to run draglite fronts this year on my car (which will be driven daily) since I have rears with tires mounted on them, just had a few questions.

First I bought some Mr. Gasket 5/16" wheel spacers that I was planning on using, these are the ones with slotted holes that fit a variety of bolt patterns. According to the wheel & tire FAQ it says they are not NHRA legal? Does this mean I will not be able to race with them at the track if I have to pass a tech inspection? when can I get the right spacers if I must?

Next I was going to get a set of 15x6's since those are the ones that are recommended for street use. What backspacing are those that are running this wheel using and what size street tire must I get so that I can maintain the same diameter as stock wheels & tires?

Last question, from what I understand, I need to run different wheel studs? Which ones do you recommend so that I can put my regular wheels back on at any time?

Thanks.

Re: Question for those who have weld draglite fronts...

NHRA requires that the spacer not be able to mount off-center on the hub.... it has to be "lug centric" (held firmly on the lugs) or "hub centric" (a tight fit to the hub, if the stud holes are oversize. That said, it would be very unusual for them to remove a wheel and look to see what kind of spacer you are running. When you mount your wheels, hold the multi-hole spacer so it stays centered as you strart to tighten the lugs, and has a uniform edge all around the wheel. If it look "centered" they will not likely be concerned with it. I'll admit to doing this.

The stud info is in the FAQ. Get them from ARP, Lingenfelter or GM Performance Parts.

For a 15x6" wheel, to fit under the fender like a factory wheel (not stick out any farther), you would need a 4.5" backspace. I doubt they make them with that much, but you could check. With a 4.5" backspace and the 5/16" spacer, the outer edge of the tire would be in the same place as the stock WS6/SS 9.0" wide wheels. You could get away with a 4.0" BS and it should still not be out from under the fender.

Try a 205/65-15 for tire size.

Re: Question for those who have weld draglite fronts...

Ok thanks for the help so far.

So I bought the Weld draglite fronts, however they only make the 15x6 fronts with a 3.5'' BS. The tire size was good for 205/65-15 it gives the same diameter as stock. I think they look good although they do sitck out a bit too much from the front fender. I put them on with the Mr. Gasket 5/16'' spacers. What do you guys think?

Now for the rears, the wheels in the pics are a set of 15x8's that a friend lent me, I'm not sure what backspace they are. If I get a new set of 15x10's with 7.5 BS do you think it will look harmonious with the front?

From what I've seen the 15x10s with the 7.5" backspace will tuck under nicely in the rear especially with a ET Street or other bias type drag tire...The fronts do hang out a bit, but it doesn't look bad at all...And I'm sure it was wayyyyyy cheaper than the Bogarts I just got...

The 15x10 7.5BS in the back will not stick out quite as far as the 3.5" BS in the front. The difference is in the spacer in the front. If you could get rid of the spacer, both wheels would have the same "front space". Then if you can get rid of the spacer, you can tell me how and I'll be happy.

Re: Question for those who have weld draglite fronts...

Ok thanks again

So now I'm getting the rears I was just wondering, if I get a 26" MT ET Street radial mounted on the 15x10 draglite, with 7.5" BS, will there be any clearance problems with the inner fender? I remember reading threads where people had to massage the fender to get 10" wide tires to fit but those were 28" tall tires if I'm not mistaken?

Otherwise, my other option is to get the rear draglites with 6.5" BS. That would put a bit more tire out of the fender, but since my fronts stick out a bit too it would be ok (it would probably look exactly like the picture above), and there would be no clearance problems.

Thanks.

If you get the 275 50 R15s which are 26" tall you'll be fine with no messaging..

Re: Question for those who have weld draglite fronts...

You guys were right the wheels do fit with the 275 wide tires, although on the passenger side I seem to have alot less space than on the driver's side:

I can't even fit my fingers between the back of the tire and the part of the wheel well where the bump stop 'protrudes'. I guess I'll just have to make a bit of space with a BFH or grinder. I don't think it rubs but just to be sure.

BTW Alan those bogarts look AWESOME!!

If the spacing between the inside edge of the wheel and the body is different on the two sides, you need to look at correcting it with an adjustable panhard rod.... not a big hammer.

Yeah I also picked up a edelbrock Adjustable PHB. To be honest I only purchased the PHB because the stock piece is a dirty putrid rotting POS and I wanted to replace it with something new, but now it looks like it's actually going to come in handy
