Question to those w/Weld Draglites

Hey guys,
I'd really like to have a set of Weld Draglites in all four corners for my Z. She's not a daily driver, and has been and will be to the strip a few times. Can you absolutely NOT drive these wheels on the street? I've read that it says 'Race only' on the wheels. That just seems odd. You can't drive 40mph on the street with them, but you can drive 100+mph at the track on them. Does anyone have these on their cars and use them on the street? If so, what size(s) are you guys running? I know they only go as high as 15" and was also wondering what maximum tire width you could fit on them. If any of you are running these wheels and tires, please post their specs. (Backspacing, rim diameter, etc.) All input in genuinely appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Question to those w/Weld Draglites

I just noticed on Weld's website they have introduced the 'XP' series for the Draglites for a more 'streetable' application. But they are NOT cheap. (At least if you buy from them! 16X8 for $272 each!

Somebody's gotta have these bad boys cheaper!

Re: Question to those w/Weld Draglites

The Weld Draglites and Pro-Stars are marked "race use only" on the 15x3.5" front runner wheels. The sizes from 15x5" on up are suitable for street use, and are not marked "race use only".

Why can you run the "restricted use" wheels at 100+mph on the track, but not at 40mph on the street? Simply because at 100+mph on the track you are travelling in a straight line, on a smooth surface, and not subjecting them to the cornering loads and potholes you see on the street going 40mph. They are not designed to take the lateral cornering loads.

Re: Question to those w/Weld Draglites

Thanks guys. I appreciate the replys. Maybe I'm just an old-school kind of guy for liking these wheels. But I think the Draglites look really good on our cars. IMO. Nobody on here is using them on their cars? Injuneer: I see you've got the Prostars - those look good.

A "search" should have turned up the answer, its been discussed here quite a few times.

Some 15" wheels will fit the 4th Gens, some won't. You also have to remember there are two different 4th Gens as far as the wheels are concerned, because most of the interferences are due to the brakes, and the LT1 and LS1 cars have different brakes, hence different problems.

On the LT1 cars, the 15" Centerline Telstars will bolt up with no problems. Bogart has a 4th Gen specific configuration for there P1 Billet wheels that allow them to fit LT1 and LS1 cars with no modifications. The Weld 15" Pro-Stars and Draglites requires a 5/16" spacer in the front, and some minor grinding of the brake caliper cooling fins to fit in the back.
