Question about recommended tire size's

For a 17x9.5 wheel, it is recommended that I use a 275/40-17.
Does anyone know what the recommended tire size is for a 17x11 rim.

Thanks

Anyone know what the recommended tire size is for 17 x 8.5's. I want to put a set of vette wheels on and keep my original 275's. Thanks in advance.

The tire manufacturers set the recommended rim width for their tires. Not all manufacturers come up with the same recommended rim width for a given size tire (Dunlop seems to accept narrower rims than others), and I have even seen differences in the recommended rim width from the same manufacturer for two different models of the same size tire.

Go to Tire Rack, and do a "search" by tire size. When they give you the list of tires they sell in that size (put in 245/45-17, and they have 73 different tires), for each tire, click on "spec".... that will give you a table of recommended rim widths for that specific tire.

In general, with a 17x8.5" wheel, you are limited to 245/45 or 255/40 (a little small in diameter). 265/40-17 or 275/40-17 requires a 9.0" wheel width. You can "cheat" but too big a tire on too small a wheel is going to look a little "scrunched".
