Depends on the year. 98-99 were ZR1 (5 spoke) 00 up are 10 spoke.
I have some shots of mine with cast iron gray (aka titanium). They look blackish.

No, just take your time taping it off. I used Duplicolor cast iron gray metallic. I went rattle can because it was temporary. Didn't know if I would like it, but it stayed on for over a year. Even then, I kept having people asking me if they were powder coated.
I've recently redone them again to look like 35th Anv wheels. The machined surfaces on the 35th Anv wheels are hidden under the paint of painted 10 spokes. It is more involved to do this though.
