New rims, tires, and lowering

I have a 93 z28 that is completely stock.

For the rims, I'm looking to get American Racing Torq Thrust II
Front: 17x9.5
Rear: 17x10.5
Will these rims work for me?

Now for the tires, I'm not sure what width to go with on the front and rear?
But I'd like a XXX/40/17 tire.
It's only going to be driven in the summer with no bad weather.
So I'll take any and all suggestions on the tires!
(Even cheap Kuhmo's will do because it's a bracket car and will be doing burnouts a lot)

As far as lowering goes, I've seen a few cars here with 17" rims and the owner said it was lowered 1.70" all around. Looks real aggressive, but any brand suggestions?

Re: New rims, tires, and lowering

Depends on the offset. There's a guideline to offset ranges that work on the 4th Gen in the "sticky" threads. I think the 17 x 9.5" is available in 45mm offset (7" backspace) and the 17 x 10.5 is available in 44mm offset (7.5" backspace). Both those would work. As offset increases, the wheel moves deeper into the wheel well. As offset decreases, the wheel moves outward toward (or outside) the edge of the fender.

Front would get a 275/40-17 (25.7" diameter)

Rear would get a 315/35-17 (25.7" diameter). Or you could use a 285/40-17 (26.1" diameter).

17" wheels, with thin sidewall profile tires, and a lowered suspension is not the way to go on a drag car, particularly not a bracket car.

Re: New rims, tires, and lowering

Ok thanks, and I wanted to keep the car street legal.

For the fronts, would a 6.5" backspace be too much?
I found a pretty good deal on 17x9.5 but they only come in 6.5 and 7 backspace.

Re: New rims, tires, and lowering

I went back and checked my calculation... and the calculated backspace for a 45mm offest was 6.97", which I should have rounded off and typed as 7", not 6". The wheels you have are OK with the offsets I mentioned.

If you got a 17 x 9.5 w/ a 32mm offset, you would have a 6.5" backspace. That would put the tire just outside the fender, and it would rub on every bump.

This T/A has the 17 x 9.5" 45mm TT II's in the front, and 17 x 11.0 45mm TT II's in the back: (hope this link works)

Re: New rims, tires, and lowering

So with more backspace, your tire will stick out farther? Or do I have it wrong?

Edit: Also, on the sales listing it does not give an offset number. I emailed the seller asking if they would fit, and they said they would. But like I said, it says only 6.5 or 7 backspacing. Which would be better for my fronts? The 7"?

Says it's 5 lug with 4 3/4" bolt pattern. Is that right?

Re: New rims, tires, and lowering

Bolt pattern is correct.

Larger backspace moves the wheel deeper into the wheel well. Smaller backspace moves outward toward the outer edge of the fender. You want the 7" backsoace.
