largest wheel and tire on 92 camaro

hi guys,
a friend of mine from work bought a 92 Camaro,383 700r4 373 gears ,and wants too turn it into a serious street and drag car some day.
wanted to buy some rims and he bought some 8" wide 4" backspace from summit . told him you should be able too get a much wider rim and tire and he did not believe me. can anyone tell me what can fit with stock wheel wheels. I think at least a 9.5 " wheel and a 10.5 " tire

Re: largest wheel and tire on 92 camaro

Indirect answer, but may help. There is a "sticky" thread written by a guy who put wider tires/wheels on an 89. I doubt you are looking at the diameter wheels he used (18 x 8.5" front; 19 x 10.0" rear), but the important piece of data is the width of the wheels and the width of the tires.

Front he ran 255/40-18. That's a 26.0" diameter tire with a 10" section width. In the back he ran a 295/30-19. That's a 26.0" tire with an 11.6" section width.

Unfortunately, the links to the photos no longer work, he was running a 4th Gen rear, which is 3 to 4" wider than the 3rd Gen, he was using extremely large offset OEM Corvette wheels, and got into issues with spacers, etc. Yours will be closer to 0 offset, but maybe someone could fill us in on the correct offset (or backspace).
