FrontTire Size - Should it be P275, P265, P255 or P245??
Hey Guys,
I am looking at the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 for my T/A. This is for the front of the car as I have Nitto 555R's on the back and they are P275 40 R17

What I really want to know is what size I should get for the front. If I go with the P245 size I would lacking the overall width of tire but my handling should be better right? I like to drag race the car from time to time but need to know what tire size would be the best? When I say the "best" I mean for overall driving, handling and cornering.
Any thoughts?
Thanx,

Why do you feel a narrower front tire will produce better overall handling? The top-dog Auto-X guys will run 315's on all 4 corners.

I am just thinking with the wider P275 tire it would be harder to control. The P245 tire is less likely of being squirly when you step on the gas. For corners I could see the P275 tires having an advantage over the P245's. Maybe I should go in the middle and get the P265's or P255's.

Harder to control how? Its true that the 275's will follow ruts in the road a little more, but its not that bad. The 275's will be MUCH better in corners than 245's. Plus, another determining factor is the wheel width in the front...what is it?

exactly...
and realize you need to find a match for overall diameter on the tire to be matched properly. just going from 245 to 255 to 265 doesn't mean the tire is just wider.
keep it simple stupid
8" wheel go with 245 tire
9 or 9.5" wheel go with 275 tire
