fitting a 315 nitto on an 8.5" wheel?
Re: fitting a 315 nitto on an 8.5" wheel?
I have the 9.5" z06 wheels with the 315s out back and have had no problems except if I hit it coming around a corner, the right rear will rub the tire just a little bit. Other than that, no problems and a wide tire always looks good.

Just like Injuneer stated, someone will chime in stating they've done it with no problems.
I've been running them on my Z28 for years now. Straight line traction is noticably increased over the narrowing looking 275/40r17 in had before. They do bulge a little, but not as bad as you would think - Nitto 315 on 17x9s on my Z28.
2 things you must remember though:
1. Lower the air pressure. I run 26psi for street driving and 20 for track use.
2. This tire with its soft sidewall, and being a little large for the wheel, will not have the most ideal handling characteristics.
Excessive tire wear in the center is common with these tires when overinflated. My 275/40r17s wore more in the center than the 315s.
The contact patch arguement is a moot point, at 20psi, track use, the tire shows wear all the way to the shoulder.
And I believe I've metioned this before, but Goodyears GSD3 285/40r17 (17x9 recommended wheel size) is wider than the Nitto 315 both mounted and unmounted.
