fitting a 315 nitto on an 8.5" wheel?

Just as the subject says, is this possible? I have gunmetal ZR1's all the way around, 8.5" width. Will there be a problem fitting a 315 nitto on them?

Is it "possible"..... sure. Is it "correct".... no.

There's an endless debate here on whether its a good idea to put the Nitto 315 DR's on a 9.0" or 9.5" wheel. For everyone who says its not a good idea to run a narrower wheel than the manufacturer recommends, someone will post that they've been running them on the narrower wheels and had "no problems". In reality, strictly in my personal opinion, it would not be a good idea to squeeze a tire that has a 12.13" wide section width on a wheel that is only 8.5" wide. Definitely going to look "bulgey" and like a too big tire on a too small wheel. But that's purely subjective.

Where did you find 17" "ZR-1" wheels that are only 8.5" wide?

yes, it will go on, i dont think it will look good, and the contact patch you will have will be worse than a tire made to fit that size, 295 would be pushing it, that would be the absolute limit! 275 would be best!

you know what... im an idiot... they are a 9.5" wheel. LOL, DOH!!!

The tires on it now are 275 40 17s, so will that work then?

I had a friend put 315's on the back of his car, dont remember what size rim he had, but it was so nice looking, tire went right to the edge of the fender. Made for a super aggressive stance.

sweet... i gotta look into this. Ill do it, unless the contact patch wont be as large as a 275 Nitto because of the fitment...

I would not recommend putting a 315 on a 9.5" wheel. No way.

Yes, people do it, but that doesn't make it smart.

Follow the manufacturer's recommendations.

The Nitto website does not show a mininum wheel width for that tire. They show that they measured it on a 10.5" wide wheel, and a maximum size of 12.0".

I have seen it done and it doesnt look good, the sidewall has to kinda curve inward to fit the rim, didnt look that great.

On top of the safety concerns and the obvious excessive wear the tire is going to see, trying to fool people into thinking your wheels are bigger than they actually are just qualifies you as a poser. Don't do it.
