Breakin down and looking for tire advise.

I've been looking around the local area here and talking with some sales-people. Now I'm going to ask all of you.

I recently purchased the ZR-1 replicas in 17X9.5 and 17X11" combo from eBay. After I bought them, I saw an auction for the same rims WITH tires....so I'm kicking myself for not just doing that instead. But, since I didn't, I need some tire advise.

I see that most people with this wheel size run 295/40/17's up front and 315/35/17's out back. Without having to donate a kidney to pay for tires, what do you guys recommend that I look at? And where are some good places to go for the tires?

I'd rather not spend over $800 for a set, and would love to spend just $500, but who knows. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Sorry, I should've been more specific in my request.

I'm looking for something with good summer traction only, the car is stored in the winter.

And since I don't put that many miles on the car, I'm leaning towards performance as opposed to long-life.

I just did the exact same thing as you, got ZR1s (but 9.5 all around)... The car wont be used in snow so I got Nitto 555s up front and 555Rs in the back from tires.com, I paid 600$ for the tires (exactly 600), I went with 275/40/17 all around.

dont skimp on tires. pay the high prices now to get the better tire, or you'll be kicking yourself. this coming from a tire salesman

275/40/17 for the fronts
315/35/17 for the rears

I was looking at the rim package you bought. One thing that i didn't like is how much money and few choices you have with 315's. Look on tirerack and other online dealers. If you don't drive the car too much those expensive tires will last a long time. I don't think that your 500 dollar budget will do, maybe just for the rear tires. Yeah, I was afraid my $500 wish wasn't gonna come true. And I don't drive the car that much really. I garage it all winter and don't take it out when it rains.

I'll do some checking online to see what I can get into a decent set for. Is there an online store that anyone swears by or knows has the cheapest prices?

Thanks for the replies.

The 275/40/17's I put on the front of my 97 make it wander like a drunk is driving my car. I hate how it travels so much Im thinking of trying 255/50/17's on my ZR1's.

Not coming from a tire salesman, The performance difference between a cheap tire and a good tire is like the difference between a 305 and an LS1.

Putting around in traffic you won't be able to tell much, but when you feel the need for speed and want to handle well .
