Re: backspacing on wheels

If you have enough power to require 28" slicks, its hard to believe you are still running the stock rear.

Whether they will fit depends on the specific tire. I've run 28" Hoosier QTP's, and they grew enough to require moving the axle backward abuot 1/4" to keep them from rubbing on the sheet metal at the front of the fender opening, when trap speed went over 120MPH. Now I've got a set of 28"x10.5-15W ET Drags, and they would not even fit in the wheel openings without taking about 1.5" off the leading edge of the rear bumper cover.

Generally, that tire would require a 10" wheel. For a 15x8" wheel, you need a 5.5" backspace. For a 15x10" wheel, a 7.5" backspace. Any less BS than that, and the tire is out from under the fender.

Re: backspacing on wheels

okay thanks, reason being a friend let me borrow a tire and wheel to mock up on my car to see what i would have to do. it is a 28x9x14 which fit good with about 1 1/2 inch betwen the front and rear quarter panel. it has a 86 inch circ. i see in jegs they have a 26x10x15 that has 82 inch circ.which would probaly fit better. trying to win on ebay a set of 15x10 with 6 1/2 backspacing. that much sticking out i dont think would hurt. there i go thinking again. by the way your car looks good. its only 1/8 mile 8.00 heads up raceing. probaly only about 90 mph.
