backspacing for 18x9.5 wheels
backspacing for 18x9.5 wheels
A friend is looking to buy a set of 18x9.5" rims for his 97 camaro. What backspacing is best for this setup? I don't want it sticking too far out of the fenders, but I don't want it to rub either. I searched but it wasn't very helpful.
Re: backspacing for 18x9.5 wheels
You can use anything from 38mm (will be flush with outside of fender) to 56mm (in the wheel well about 3/4" further).
These are 9.5" wide wheels with a 49mm offset:

Re: backspacing for 18x9.5 wheels
The 56 mm looks good but what does that equate to in "backspacing" terms? I'm looking at some Centerline Scorpions which come in 5, 5.5 , 6, and 7" backspacing for a 9.5" rim.
Re: backspacing for 18x9.5 wheels
A 9.5" wide wheel with a 56mm offset will have a backspace of approx. 7.43". The Scorpion with a 7.0" backspace would be about a 45mm offset.
Re: backspacing for 18x9.5 wheels
I think it could be helpful if we included some common offset/backspacing specs for the F body in the sticky at the top of the page. It would probably cut down on the ammout of threads related to these questions (created by myself also).
