I heard a rumor that the K stands for "Killer", as in, "The KD is killer on dry roads."

Actually, the only thing I came across suggests that the "K" stands for "key feature". I've often seen, for example:

BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW ("KDW" for Key feature: Dry and Wet traction)

Im on my second set and love them. And i looked for about 3 months for tires and are the best bang for the buck are the kdw.

IMO, the Goodyear GSC's that came from the factory on our LT1 cars SUCK! But I also believe that pretty much all Goodyears are bad tires since they are overpriced, usually don't hook too well, and wear down super fast.

If you are looking for cheap tires that last a long time, and perform decently, I personally like Khumo's.

If you are looking for more traction, the KDW's, or Nitto's are your next best bet. I am partial to the Nitto's, however the KDW's are of equal quality.

Just jumping in here to add to the question ...

... is there much difference in traction or feel between the KDW's and the KD's?? I'm going to be upgrading to Z06 rims for next summer (17's front, 18's back), and I'm looking at these tires as well ... my car is a daily driver, but I want good grip too ... how bad are the KD's in the rain? Or are the KDW's the best compromise?

Thx .

The KD does fine. I ran them on the rear of my DD for 1.5 years. They still had plenty of tread but my left side tire picked up a saw blade that ruined it. The KD's do hook well when heated.

Now, I'm running the Falken RT-615. IMO this tire is worth consideration. Seems to have better initial bite when cold. Haven't heated them up yet though and can't vouch for tread wear yet. I'll have a set up front next month too.
