alignment of 275/40/17s question
alignment of 275/40/17s question
i went to take my 275/40/17s with chrome rims in to have re-aligned/balance and the dealer called me and said they cant fit their equipment on to the rim-it is too big?? they said they wanted to put tape on my rim before they get their equipment on it but there is a "chance" it may leave a light mark on my rim?
you guys ever hear of this? i told them to wait! until i get some feedback from the forum. any info on if you have had this happen would be appreciated!

Re: alignment of 275/40/17s question
Most dealerships won't have the equipment or just plain won't mess with chrome rims of that size. Find a reputable tire shop and they will take care of you. They are more experienced and have the tools to do the job right. I use one here and they do a great job.

Re: alignment of 275/40/17s question
Chrome is pretty durable. I changed tires for 3 years and a chrome wheel is much more scratch resistant than a polished or painted wheel. I seriously doubt tape would hurt the finish at all.
Re: alignment of 275/40/17s question
I think it all depends on the dealer...our local dealer said they can do my 18" corvette rims just fine (275/45/18 rim in back) and 245/45/17 in front. When i owned my truck they said they could do an allignment on most tires up to 20" then they can't do anymore, but my dealership has one of those neat Hunter systems.

Re: alignment of 275/40/17s question
I guess they are just tryin to cover their asses in case the equipment actually leaves a mark, that's all.
However, if the alignment tech is knowledgeable enough, he should be able to do it without any problems.
